Michael Jackson: Don't Miss a Once in a Lifetime Live Auction

Once in a Lifetime Auction of Once in a Lifetime King of Pop

Deborah Oakes, NPS
Michael Jackson: Don't Miss His Live Auction. A once in a lifetime auction of a once in a lifetime King of Pop. Michael Jackson is auctioning 2,000 of his possessions for 5 days, from April 22-25th. It takes place adjacent to the Beverly Hilton Inn in Los Angeles in a live auction and is estimated to bring in $1.5 million to $3 million. No matter what you may think of him, there is no doubt he has impacted music in dramatic ways. He started the trend of music videos and kept at the forefront of this trend for years. Thriller was the world's biggest selling album of all time.

But his title King of Pop has as much to do with his dramatic videos as his hit songs and dance steps. MJ became eccentric over his lifetime and his possessions are one of a kind. Who else would name their residence Neverland and put in an amusement park? The auction will be streamed live on-line at Auction Network. Sign up for free to listen or register to bid. It will be thrilling to see the inside life of such an iconic world figure. And it will be just as interesting to see who bids on the possessions.

MJ's Auction Items to watch for are:

The White Sequined Glove: This glove is so famous, there is even an online tracking site dedicated to sightings of it. It is a custom Swarovski crystal covered, right-hand glove the King of Pop wore in the Billie Jean video. Since then, the glove is remembered as much as the video. Estimated value, $10,000-$15,000.

Pop Portraits: Michael Jackson is selling portraits of himself dressed as Peter Pan, Batman, a California raisin from his California raisin commerical, a robot, an Elizabethan king and others. Estimated values, $3,000-$5,000.

Edward Scissorhand's blades: From the 1990 Tim Burton movie starring Johnny Depp as Edward Scissorhands. These are the actual blades used in the movie. Estimated value: Not Available at this time. Julien's Auctions will have the catalog: Memorabilia From the Life and Career of Michael Jackson on-line soon.

Robot Head from Moonwalker: This custom special effects head was featured at the climax of his 1988 film Moonwalker. In it he transforms into a robot. The head lights up as each piece of the face explodes and expands before retracting back into the shape of Michael Jackson's face. Estimated Value: $2,000-$3,000.

Vintage Arcade Games: MJ collected everything from Space Invaders, Ms. Pacman, Frogger and Donkey Kong to pinball machines and an air hockey table. Estimated Values: $500-$700.

Classic Stage Costumes: Dating from the Jackson 5 days and on up, this collection includes a custom-made military jacket from the United We Stand benefit, concert T-shirts worn by MJ and stage costumes such as a red rhinestone-studded bodysuit. Estimated Values: $500-$700.

Disney World Memorabilia: A model of Sleeping Beauty's Castle, Pinocchio Masks, and 3 or 4 of Walt Disney's autographs were collected over the years by Michael Jackson. Estimated Values: $1,000 and up.

Assorted Garden and Statuary from MJ's Neverland, pieces include: A 1986 GMC High Sierra fire truck, the 1954 Cadillac from Driving Miss Daisy and the Gates to Neverland to name a few. Estimated Values: Vary According to Piece.

See inside the eccentric mind of Michael Jackson and Neverland. He collected fabulous memorabilia from his life, Disney and Americana. The live auction will be a return to a majestic time in music when he became the King of Pop and lived the life of an iconoclast.

Update: Michael Jackson sues auction house saying he did not approve all the items and that many of them are irreplaceable. The head of the auction house says he was completely surprised because he had been working closely with Michael's manager.

Update: Michael Jackson schedules concert in London beginning July 8, 2009. He states he will sing the songs his fans love. Reports are that he looked great.
