Michael Jackson and South Park

Dead Celebrities

So I was very excited for the second half of season 13 of South Park to premiere on the 7th. In the past, I have realized that the writers, Trey Parker and Matt Stone usually throw something together right before the premiere. Sometimes it's a great episode, other times, it's not. The premiere of the Dead Celebrities, in my opinion was decent. I was more excited about the fact that there was a new episode showing.

This episode pretty much is about the recent celebrity deaths that have occurred this past year including Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Billy Mays. Now in my opinion, I am very sorry that these unfortunate events have occurred, but on the same note, I am really tired of seeing Michael Jackson on the TV Guide channel. I think that it is over played now. I am not sure if TV producers are doing this because they really feel bad, or if it boosting advertising sales on the network. In the episode, Kyle's little brother Ike gets possessed with the soul of Michael Jackson, which in turn hold back the passage of the rest of the deceased celebrities out of purgatory.

I think that including Billy Mays was funny, but it got kind of redundant after a while. Michael Jackson in general is a subject that can easily get played out, especially of some of the same jokes are told. The funniest element of this episode to me was the Chipotle joke. That actually was pretty funny. I am sure many people can relate to the addicting effects that Chipotle can have as well as the potential consequences. I'd say the cleverest aspect of the episode was how they tied in the Chipotle joke with Billy Mays. But other than that, I think that's it. I mean the whole concept of purgatory being compared to an airplane that just won't take off is pretty clever as well.

I truly believe that Michael Jackson jokes should come to an end because they just aren't funny anymore. It is really getting old, and I find myself producing a forced cheap laugh. But I do have to say the end of the episode was actually very funny. I enjoyed it very much. I won't spoil it for those who have yet to see it, but it did make it worth watching the whole show. If you miss it on television, then I suggest going to www.southparkstudios.com to view the entire episode as well as any other episodes of South Park.
