The Iowa State Fair, recognized by the New York Times best-selling book, "1000 Places to See Before You Die," is considering featuring a butter sculpture of the legendary King of Pop, Michael Jackson at the 2009 Iowa State Fair. To get feedback from fair goers, the Iowa State Fair is allowing the public to vote on whether or not the Iowa State Fair should feature a butter display of Michael Jackson.

To vote on the Michael Jackson butter sculpture, visit www.iowastatefair.org. Voting begins on July 9, 2009 and runs through 3 pm on July 16th. The results will be posted on the Iowa State Fair web site on July 17th. To vote, you will be required to input your e-mail address and zip code.

The Iowa State Fair has showcased a sculpture made out of butter and also known as a "Butter Cow" since the early 1900s. The "Butter Cow" utilizes 600 pounds of putter and is placed over a wood, metal and wire mesh frame. The sculpture is built inside a 40-degree cooler and usually stands just over five feet high when completed. The butter on display at the 2009 Iowa State Fair will be a jersey cow.

The sculptor at the 2009 Iowa State Fair is Sarah Pratt of West Des Moines. In addition to the traditional butter cow, the Iowa State Fair will also showcase a butter sculpture in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon. The buttery sculpture will include a moon, astronaut and Neil Armstrong.

The Iowa State Fair is considering the addition of a butter sculpture featuring Michael Jackson as well to honor his legacy and the choreographed moonwalking he made famous. Michael Jackson also plays a role in the history of the Iowa State Fair.

In 1971, Michael Jackson performed on the Grandstand stage as a member of the Jackson Five. Michael Jackson along with his brothers drew thousands of fans during their two performances on the Iowa State Fair Grandstand. The butter sculpture of Michael Jackson would serve as a reflection of his historical connection to the Iowa State Fair as well as a tribute to his legacy as a King of Pop.

The 2009 Iowa State Fair theme is "State Fair Time." The Iowa State Fair takes place in Des Moines, Iowa from August 13, 2009 through August 23, 2009.
