Michael Jackson's Soul Will Rest in Peace

Send the Money for Your Casket to Darfur!

I don't know about you but I have had quite enough of Michael Jackson, thank you. I can list a number of reasons I have had enough.

1. He is not a king.
2. Although not convicted and perhaps in his childlike way there was no pedophilia going on at Neverland, that won't stop many of us from thinking that sleeping with children other than your own is just plain wrong.
3. He died because he was enabled by an entourage of people. He bought these people. Michael Jackson is the epitome of what the haves can get and the have nots so nor get. Going into a store and spending $6 million is obscene when that money can go to children's organizations - the same children Jackson in life claimed to love so much. His "innocence" is beginning to make me sick.

Was Jackson talented? Of course - he was perhaps one of the most talented performers we've had in our lifetime. The fact I don't think that performers or sports players should earn the kind of money they do is beside the point -or not - we have starving people all over the word and right here in the United States.

How much is it costing to bury Michael Jackson? Suffice it to say it will cost millions. My gosh the guy is being buried in a gold coffin carried by a carriage with a motorcade of 30 cars. As I write this the plans seem to be changing by the minute. Everyone wants a piece of Michael Jackson's burial. Where he will be buried is unknown.

Where are the bodies of our soldiers who have died in Iran and Afghanistan buried? We don't want to hear about them. We don't want to hear about deaths of police officers and first responders. No, it seems much of America would rather see and hear how a pop star - ok icon - is being buried. I have seen the tapes ad nauseum. I know them by heart. I happen to like Larry King but I said last night to myself "Not again!"

Has anyone considered that as mentioned above the money this spectacle is costing would go a long way to help the children he claims to love - the innocent children he has mentioned in his interviews or off- the- cuff remarks repeatedly. Why is there nothing being done to stop this madness?

I remember when Tom Brady was a newcomer but not so new that it wasn't clear he would be taking the N.E. Patriots to new heights. I cannot quote what I heard or read or where it was- I can only write it as I recall it and I think you will get the meaning. Tom Bellichek, the Pat' coach, told Tom not to let his ego get to big -not to let his publicity get to his head. After all Brady was just playing a game of football. After all he has not invented the cure for cancer or AIDS.

I applaud Bellichek and I would applaud anyone who has the nerve to come out and say "Michael Jackson was an eccentric, super talented. mentally unwell "man." But that is all he was in life and death. He has not done anything for the betterment of our world. Before you get on me I do know his philanthropic endeavors were admirable. I do know he was one to give more money to charities than most - other than Bill Gates and Oprah Winfrey perhaps. Still it isn't enough.

Michael, may you rest in peace. I think your soul will be happier if you had a modest burial and sent the money to Appalachia or Darfur.

Is it ever enough for people? Despite the fact that he donated more money than any other Hollywood celebrity, some people still count what's left in his pocket... Really sad

    I really enjoyed this.

I have to comment - after I wrote this piece and after everyone said how great the memorial was there were editorial articles, etc. that echoed my thoughts so it's good to know that the dismay over the coverage has gotten out.

I just worry about his children. What a heartbreaking loss for them. :-(

Thank you for your comments - + and -. We live in the U.S. so you didn't have to read this piece. No one made you read it but I thank you for doing so.

I'm not sure why we should care what you think. The casket is NOT made out of gold, so get your facts straight. It's a bronze casket with gold plated handles. So what, are you paying for it? Is the funeral hurting you personally, or anyone for that matter? What did you miss some soap operas or talk shows, what?

I'm glad they are broadcasting it on every channel possible, and glad they are talking about him non-stop because he got the last laugh on all of you who condemned him with or without a trial. It's kind of an in your face the way I see it. Did someone make you watch any of it? I didn't think so.

All of you and the writer of this article are certainly entitled to your opinion, but
for the most part who are you kidding? We as humans, by our own nature, usually need to express our grief/sadness with something real that we can see and connect with. In most cases that would be a funeral/memorial with others attending, to share our stories and/or sadness with. Of course for the majority of us that means our family and close friends and possibly some acquaintances, because after all most of us aren't known
throughout the world. But for people like Elvis and Micheal they leave a much bigger void in the world because through their talent they have touched millions of lives over many years. So most people, as it was plain to see, wanted to be at or watch the memorial in order to "connect" with Micheal's family and friends and to say goodbye in a fitting way. There's nothing wrong in that. For me, I can't recall ever buying a record or CD of his, but then I rarely ever bought an

I agree enough already! he was an amazing performer with a unique talent. But so are so many other people. I think there is a reason for the term rest in peace. But let's face it nothing about his life has been reasonable - so why should it start now?

You are so right about the excess being spent on the funeral. But who is making the plans. If these arrangements were outlined by Michael then boo on him. If they are being done by his family & friends, then double boo on them. They are the ones that should have the sense to keep it private and donate the money to a childrens fund.

Thanks, Anne - the state of CA's $$ problems is so true.
