Michael Lohan Defends "Today" Show Interview; Says Dina Lohan was Not Ambushed

Michael Lohan is speaking exclusively to Celebrity gossip site PopEater.com about his ex-wife Dina Lohan's interview with Matt Lauer on the "Today" show Friday, and also defending Matt Lauer from Dina's accusations that she was ambushed during the interview.

Calling the entire "Today" interview "lies" on Dina's part, Michael blasted his ex for the way she raised their four children, for continuing to tell people they have been divorced for 15 years and applauding Matt Lauer for seeing that Dina was trying to dominate the interview by slamming Judge Marsha Revel.

Michael told PopEater Dina "failed miserably with Lindsay" and just needs to admit her failure. "Matt didn't ambush Dina. If anything Matt was easy on her. Dina hardly gave him a chance to ask questions and when he did, she didn't answer them or just lied," Michael told the site.

According to sources with "Today" Dina made it clear when contacted to do the interview she only wanted to talk about Judge Marsha Revel and the way she handled Lindsay Lohan's case. She also reportedly told the show she didn't want to be ambushed by Lauer with questions about her family or problems Lindsay might or might not have.

But, during the interview Lauer continued to direct Dina away from the her tirade about the Judge and pressed her instead to defend Lindsay and address public scrutiny for the way she raised the troubled actress.

One comment Dina made during the interview immediately brought a flood of negative comments on Twitter, blogs and message boards across the Internet. "As a parent, you have to let them go a little bit. You can't make your child not go out and go to a club and not get behind the wheel of a car."

After watching the interview with PopEater Michael Lohan said, "I don't know whether Dina needs the rehab, serious counseling, an exorcism or jail. Her constant denials and lies on 'Today' only prove how corrupted her heart and motives are."

Dina also addressed the issue of how long she and Michael have been separated and raised eyebrows when she said she hasn't lived with Michael for 15 years. Their divorce was finalized in 2007.

Michael responded with, "We have only been divorced for five years, so I don't know why Dina told Lauer that we haven't been together in 15 years. My youngest son is only 14. I saw my boys a month ago and spent the day with our daughter, Ali, just a month ago."

Michael Lohan went on to say the best thing for his daughter Lindsay right now is, "family therapy with Dina and me. Something that has been recommended by professionals for years, however, Dina just won't let it happen. It's all about money controlling Lindsay to Dina. She has failed miserably with Lindsay. We have both caused this situation with our daughter and we need to fix it together as parents. The only thing Dina got right in the interview with Matt Lauer on 'Today' is nothing has changed."
