The secret Michael Phelps pizza diet is not something that you expect to hear from Phelps, the lean, muscular man who shatters world swimming records by just a hundredth of a second, and who won a jaw-dropping record of gold medals at the last Olympics in Athens. In the current Summer Olympics 2008 in Beijing, it's expected that Michael Phelps will win even more gold medals for his record-breaking swimming. And all while dining on pasta and pizza! Too bad the rest of us can't follow the Michael Phelps diet! While many Americans eat just like Michael Phelps, the 'Michael Phelps diet', with its high carbs and fat, is hardly helping America's waistlines.
It seems that Michael Phelps has been following this diet for years. Three years ago, in 2005, IGN Sports asked Michael Phelps what he ate. The Michael Phelps diet back then? Pretty much the same. "I eat pretty much whatever I want," Michael Phelps told IGN, describing his diet as non-existent and "all about cramming in as many calories into my system as I possibly can. To be honest with you, I have a tough time keeping weight on." (source). If only the rest of us had Michael Phelps' weight problem! When IGN asked Michael Phelps about fast food, all he said was, "Bring it on!" (source)
Without a doubt, following the Michael Phelps diet without Michael Phelps' tough, strenuous exercise routine will only get you fat. Obviously, the Michael Phelps diet is only successful if you train along the caliber of an Olympic athlete. If you're just a regular person, eating the Michael Phelps diet of pizza and pasta will do you more harm than good.
Diet Tips: If You Can't Eat Like The Michael Phelps Diet
Can't eat pizza and pasta every day like Michael Phelps? Here are some diet tips to staying healthy:
- Eat lots of fruits and vegetables.
- Drink lots of water.
- When eating meat, stick to lean cuts.
- Incorporate more vegetables into your diet.
- Protein is important for athletes who want to build muscles, but try to get your protein from low-fat, lean sources such as yogurt or egg whites.
- Unless you're training for the next Olympics, don't follow the Michael Phelps diet!
