Michael Sarver's March 25 Performance is Sub Par

Daniel Erickson
Michael Sarver, an American Idol finalist, failed to impress on March 25.

Not only does Michael not have the voice for great country singing, he also seems like he's a square peg trying to fit in a round hole. Watching his performance was almost painful. There were times when I forgot I was at home on my couch and thought I was down at the local honky-tonk on karaoke night. Every so often I would reach for my beer only to find I was still at home in front of my TV.

He reminded me mostly of a drunken frat boy trying to impress a girl at a bar. You know, the one who is tone deaf, 6 beers, 3 shots, and filled with liquid courage? Mind you, he does hit the notes, he just doesn't have the 'country whine' that makes country songs, well, country. He sings the song, but he doesn't convey the feeling of the song. It's almost robotic.

His 'dancing' left much on the table. Again, it looks more like he was stumbling around the stage trying dearly to smile at every pretty girl in the audience. His blank smiling stare was a constant throughout as well.

In conclusion, the performance was less than satisfying. It lacked emotion, real enthusiasm, and most importantly, it lacked the right voice.

Please Michael, sober up, then come and sing for us. You have a great voice but you really, really failed to impress Tuesday. Try a different genre.
