Michael Vick was questionable for Sunday's game against the New York Giants because of a concussion. It turns out the Philadelphia Eagles probably should have held him out of the game because Vick ended up breaking his hand during a second-half touchdown drive.
According to ESPN, Vick tried to take the ball into the end zone twice on quarterback sneaks in the second half. Both times he failed, and the Eagles had to settle for a field goal attempt. After that field goal, he left the field to have X-rays taken. That was where it was determined he had a broken hand. As it was his nonthrowing hand, Vick decided to try to return to the field but ended up having to be replaced.
The bad news for the Eagles is that Mike Kafka isn't exactly up to the talent level of Vick, and he threw an interception on his first play. That made the day much more frustrating for Eagles fans, even after Vick had been hit numerous times by the Giants defense. Without Vick, it seemed to spark the Giants as New York scored 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to win the game.
The 29-16 loss to the Giants isn't going to sit well with the Eagles, especially after so many "analysts" had been stating Vick should be rested because of his concussion. The franchise felt it was important to win the game. As both teams are in the NFC West, this gives the Giants an edge in the head-to-head tiebreaker. Philadelphia will be pressed into a must-win situation when the teams meet later in the season.
There has not been a prognosis given on Vick, and the team may wait to decide if he is going to rest or try to play with the broken hand. It would make the running attack of Vick much less valuable, but he could still throw well. The Eagles are 1-2 and have fallen behind every other team in the division. If the Dallas Cowboys win on Monday night against the Washington Redskins, it will leave Philadelphia alone in last place.
