Michael Vick: When the Cruel Are Rewarded

Will Johnson
Do I have a new respect for MSNBC host Tucker Carlson? He spoke of a desire to execute Michael Vick. I must admit that I have, at times, shared this desire. While I would never act on such an impulse, my rage was such that the most severe punishment of Vick seemed to be justified.

I cannot understand how anyone can defend let alone praise Michael Vick. I cannot understand how one of our largest American cities can embrace him as a hero. I, for one, stopped going to my local sub shop after I heard the cashier speak in glowing terms of Vick to another customer. His words were "I love Michael Vick." Really? You love a cruel, brutal millionaire who could care less about you? Why not try celebrating your own meager accomplishments rather than following the victories of a pet-killer? On Facebook and message boards most people alternate between praising and defending this monster. We love second chances in this country, don't we? How many second chances did he give to the dogs that he killed?

In essence Vick is not that unique. Dog-fighting is a common practice in many parts of this country. However, most of the thugs who participate in such activities do not have the budget of an NFL star. And this is what makes Mike Vick such an absolutely disgusting individual. He used the excessive amounts of money earned by his God-given talent to create a torture compound and slaughterhouse for domesticated animals. One that was beyond the wildest dreams of any backyard dog-fighter.

Think of all the little boys who dream of becoming NFL quarterbacks, but who do not have the talent. Vick did have the talent and he used his blessings to create nothing but carnage. He indulged himself in the most gruesome and wasteful sadism. To call this man a piece of garbage is to insult garbage.

I highly doubt that Vick is the least bit remorseful for anything that he has done. He cannot even understand why some people are upset with him. He is simply playing the P.R. game and saying and doing what he has to say and do to make his millions.

Mark my words. Once he has made his money and settled into retirement he will be busted again for dogfighting. Why? Because that is who he is. People do not change overnight. Even prison does not change people. No one can change the core of their being. Michael Vick is, at his core, a lowlife, subhuman, soulless piece of worthless trash. This cannot change.

His true lack of redemption is what angers me. To see this big, powerful, cruel, arrogant, overpaid bully prance down the field to once again be greeted like a hero by adoring fans is sickening after what he did. To watch him play the phony rehab game that every other troubled celebrity plays. To watch this man, this unrepentant beast, convince the naive and smirk at the wise. All of this is just so enraging. This is what enraged Tucker Carlson. This is what enrages me
