Michael Vick Flunks Drug Test

Marijuana Discovered in Vick Urine Test

Michel Vick the embattled former Atlanta Falcons quarterback reportedly failed a drug test according to court documents filed in Richmond, Virginia today. The urine test was conducted on September 13 which reportedly stated that he tested positive for marijuana.

There was a previous episode where he was associated with marijuana. However, the infamous "water bottle" episode at the Miami Airport proved of little substance and was dismissed. His brother Marcus Vick has been clearly associated with marijuana and as a result of a possession charge lost his drivers license for several months and eventually was dismissed from Virginia Tech.

Michael Vick's conditions of release while he awaits sentencing for his dog fighting guilty plea is contingent on his refraining from drug or narcotic use. Clearly this violates the conditions, however it is unlikely that he will be jailed. According to court documents, he will however be subjected to random drug tests and may have to attend mental health counseling. Additional measures include restriction to his residence from 10 pm until 6 am and he will be required to be electronically monitored.

The fall from fame and fortune of Michael Vick is a tragedy. The Commonwealth of Virginia is bringing dogfighting charges against him to compliment the federal charges and it has been reported that he is being sued by the Royal Bank of Canada. Apparently there was a clause in a real estate loan that he negotiated which stated any change in employment would change the terms of the loan. The bank now seeks repayment of the loan which exceeded $2 million.

The predicaments that Vick now faces are not unusual for those that violate the law and are adjudged as guilty. Vick's fall has been akin to jumping off a skyscraper. In this case Vick has already pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing. These developments do not bode well for the sentencing that is to take place in November. He appears to be following up on his previous self-destructive behavior which will further jeopardize any possibility of his rejoining the NFL. This marijuana episode may in fact be the last nail in his professional and personal life coffin.

It is hard to imagine that he could anything worse to injure himself. Many have offered the view in his defense that dog fighting was a cultural phenomena that could be attributed to his upbringing. One has to wonder what his defenders will have to say about his latest problem.
