Michael Vick Indicted on Federal Charges

Wordsleuth
Michael Vick was indicted on federal charges today. According to the indictment Vick, as well as Purnell A. Peace, Quanis L. Phillips, and Tony Taylor, have been indicted for "knowingly sponsoring and exhibiting an animal fighting venture," and running a business that involved gambling as well as purchasing animals for fighting.

Charges against Michael Vick seemed unlikely up until today when Vick was named in the federal indictment.

It is not known yet what the league's punishment will be for Vick, if any, but NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has punished other players for offenses without a guilty verdict. The other players punished by Goodell were repeat offenders with the law. Since this is Michael Vick's first time in trouble with the law in the NFL, it is being speculated that Goodell may not punish Vick.

Culpepper Released

Daunte Culpepper was released today, as expected. The Dolphins cut ties with their disappointing quarterback and he is now free to join another team. The Jaguars, where Culpepper's former coach Mike Tice is an assistant coach, are the front-runners to land Culpepper.

Culpepper was expected to be released after the Dolphins traded for former Pro Bowl quarterback Trent Green this off season. Culpepper failed to come back adequately enough from an ACL tear for the Dolphins to want to keep him.

Jones Can Go to Training Camp

It was ruled today that Pacman Jones can participate in training camp even though he cannot participate in the upcoming season. Jones cannot play in any preseason games. It is still possible for Jones to play the last few games of the NFL season if he stays out of trouble, but at this point it seems unlikely.

Holcomb to Minnesota

Kelly Holcomb could soon be heading to Minnesota. The Philadelphia Eagles and the Minnesota Vikings are discussing a trade that could ship the quarterback from Philadelphia to Minnesota. The Vikings are looking for a backup to be behind their young starter to help protect him. Tavaris Jackson will be entering his first season as a starter.

Jenkins Moving to St. Louis

Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Kris Jenkins could still be on the move. It appeared that a deal would happen between the Rams and the Panthers around draft time, but a deal never materialized. Even though it would normally be unlikely at this point in the offseason that Jenkins would be traded, it seems as if a deal could get done before training camp begins.

Nice article, such a disappointment in Vick though.
