Michael Vick May Play with the NFL Again?

Should a Dog Killer Be Allowed Back in the NFL?

Kelli Perez
Michael Vick is scheduled for release from prison in July of this year. I came across an article that discussed the possible NFL football teams that would be interested in having Vick as their quarterback. Michael Vick was convicted on felony dog fighting charges in 2007. He had over seventy dogs on his property and called it "Bad Newz Kennels." Most of the dogs were Pitbulls and there was physical evidence of dog fighting found on Vick's 15 acre property.

Dog fighting is a cruel sport where dogs are put into a fight or die situation. Two dogs are put into a fight pit and there is only one winner. The dogs battle with each other until either one dog dies or is severely injured. Dogs are trained to extreme lengths so they have the endurance to fight. They are starved and the abuse these dogs go through is disgusting. If dogs lose a competition, they are punished, which could be death. Vick executed dogs by drowning, hanging, electrocution or shooting them if they did not win.

Champion dog fighters reward is they get to live, but life for them is not cushy. One of Vick's fighting Pitbulls, Georgia, was a champion fighter. Her reward for winning was having all her teeth pulled and forced to breed. There was evidence of equipment called a "rape" rack where the females are confined on this apparatus and male dogs are allowed to impregnate the female. If this wasn't cruel enough, multiple births can make female canines susceptible to mammary carcinoma. Dogs are better health wise if they are neutered and spayed. Luckily, Georgia is now in the loving care of the Best Friend Society and living a fun life at Dogtown.

After reading that Vick may have the opportunity to continue his NFL career, this news was unsettling to me. Should a NFL player be allowed to play the sport after he has committed a felony? If Vick would have committed murder of a human being, would the NFL even consider having him play for them? If Vick was convicted on child molesting charges, would the NFL want a child molesting quarterback? Since it was dogs that Vick was abusing and murdering, this still makes him a quality athlete?

I feel that Vick should not be allowed to continue in the NFL. He took the lives of dogs by executing them if they did not perform as champions. These dogs at "Bad Newz Kennels" did not get to live their lives as dogs should. They were in cages the majority of their time there. They were starved, not cared for, in poor health, some even contracted a virus due to the dog fighting and all carry the scars from Vick's cruelty. The dogs that did not live they never got the chance to live a happy, fun life.

It's appalling that the NFL is considering having a dog killer as a quarterback. I like watching sports, especially, football. I enjoy going to see the Denver Broncos. However, the NFL team that decides to have Vick on their team will make me conclude that they could careless about animal rights. If Vick is allowed to continue his football career, he should forever have to pay for the rehabilitation and care of the Pitbulls he had at "Bad Newz Kennels." And Michael Vick should be made to give speeches about how animal cruelty is wrong and educate people about the brutality of dog fighting.

Fist, I don't like football, and killing is murder here and in China. If is up to me I would not let him play.

Dante Stallworth was convicted of killing a pedestrian (HUMAN), while driving drunk, and served 30 days in jail. To me, these crimes are far worse than anything vick did, yet very little was done to him.

Michael Vick DESERVES another chance! He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone. We have all made mistakes. For the dog-lovers out there, get over it. Spend your energy on spreading love to somePERSON in your life. I have a toy poodle that I love, but my dog is unimportant when compared to the creation or destruction of human life. Michael Vick is one of the best quarterbacks to ever play in the NFL. Let him return to work. This man should not be barred from doing his job. Animal rights people... need to get a life!!!!

This is why there is animal abuse and neglect, because some people take the attitude they are just animals. Despite the fur, animals having feelings and can feel pain. Hanging, drowning, electrocuting and beating an animal is inhumane.

let mike vick play! you cannot compare humans to animals, there are no similarities. Killing an animal is not considerd murder. Killing a human is. Vick has PAID his debt to society, and the bottom line is that he did some horribly bad things to animals. But lets remember, that they are animals. There are plenty of people in the NFL (and other sports) who have been caught & will continue to be caught badly BEATING their girlfriends and/or wives and yet no one is steppig up to the plate protesting against them. Why is that? We are placing our values on the wrong things. We have humanized animals and animalized humans. Mike Vick was guilty & wrong for what he did, he has acknowledged he was wrong & paid his price.. now just let him play....
