Michael Vick, a Sports Review

Every Dog Has His Day...In Court

As I simultaneously play Madden '08 and watch Sports centers highlights of the NFL pre-season, I pinch myself just make sure this is not a dream and that I'm not in some sort of football heaven. I was almost expecting John Elway to come from the kitchen with a soda and chips, but the next story that pops on the screen assures me I am still in this cold unnerving place we call reality. "Michael Vick pleads guilty...," I here an anchor say, so I tear myself from the PSP in my hands and through my own shouting I drown out the rest of his sentence. Then I think to myself why am I surprised, we all knew Vick had at least minimal involvement in the dog fighting, no matter how much we wished otherwise, but I guess actual confirmation was a shock to my system. "His sentencing was set for Dec. 10," I manage to catch that while shouting throughout the house, "He plead guilty, he's facing about 2 years."

It hurts me so much to think that "Mike Vick," "the fastest thing on two legs," "Mr. Incredible himself" could fall from grace How could this be? "I will redeem myself. I have to," Vick proclaims, and for a second, like most, I don't believe he can. Then I think to myself, if I can forgive so can everyone else. So, Mr. Incredible, let me be the first to say I forgive you. I forgive you not only for what you've done but also for what you didn't do. You had the power to prevent this but you didn't, you could've nipped this in the in the bud yet you gave it life, and still I forgive you.

What Vick did was wrong but we as fans could commit a much worse crime by holding it against him. We should all learn from Vick and cut our persecution short because at the end of the day it won't bring those dogs back and it won't erase this whole ordeal. Michael Vick was a huge inspiration to this kid from the ghetto; just watching him seemed like watching a hero amongst villains. Maybe he was exposed to the red kryptonite that makes superman evil; I don't know what happened but my hopes is that he will once again be loved by his fans. My hope is that Vick does his time and is accepted not only back into football but into our hearts. I know it can never be like it was but we can at least forgive the man for his sins.

So as for me, I can't wait to see number seven back on the field shaking defenders and tossing TD's. I'll be patiently waiting for Superman's return. Though it may be 3rd and long right now we all know Vick can make nothing into something, so don't be surprised if "Mr. Incredible" turns this sure sack into a first down.
