Michaelle Jean is the third and last female governor general of Canada who just ended her term in October 2010. She is a journalist and stateswoman and former refugee from Haiti.
Michaelle and the women in her family suffered abuse at the hands of her father. Michealle Jean had conducted a study on spousal abuse while she was still in university. She also worked in a women's shelter after she finished her studies.
Immigration work
Michaelle did not stop there, she was actively involved in organizations helping immigrants settle in Canada. Marriage
She married Jean-Daniel Lafond French Canadian filmmaker. They adopted Marie-Éden, a little girl from Jacmel.
Michaelle Jean's career in journalism
Radio Canada French Television
Michaelle Jean finished university and made her career in journalism working for Radio Canada (french) as a reporter, broadcaster, and filmmaker in 1988. She hosted news and current affairs programs and was the first West Indian person to do so on French television news in Quebec and Canada. She appeared on such programs as "Actuel, Montréal ce soir, Virages, and Le Point.
" She went on to do all news as an anchor for Radio Canada on such programs as Le Monde ce soir, l'Édition québécoise, Horizons francophones, Les Grands reportages, Le Journal RDI, and RDI à l'écoute."
Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC)
Four years later, she was offered by Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) to host the The Passionate Eye and Rough Cuts series on the prestigious CBC Newsworld. The formerly mentioned series broadcast the best in Canadian and foreign films.
It didn't take her long to host her own show, Michaelle in 2004. She still continued to anchor RDI's Grands reportages on Radio Canada and she also did some acting on Le Téléjournal.
