Hello Michelle!
I really like the article you wrote on how thin is to thin. You have some great advice. I thought it would be neat to interview you and share your interview here on a.c content? If you are willing to please answer the questions below and email it back to me.
Thanks Lily
Then Michelle replied back with the interview questions answered!
Here they are:
1. What do you enjoy doing for hobbies when your not writing for A.C Content?
Writing for other places and other things. I mean, everything I do pretty much involves writing or promoting my writing. I write novels and non-fiction books as well, and so I spend a big chunk of time writing those. Yeah, my hobby and my job is writing.
2. Is A.C Content a full-time job, part-time job, or extra cash flow?
AC started as a place to have some extra cash flow, at a time when I really needed the money. Today, I use AC more to publish things I can't get published in print. I'll submit to magazines and newsletters and such, and if they don't buy my works, I'll tweak them a bit for SEO and submit them to AC for consideration, so I still make a little money off of something I've already put time into. Prior to AC, rejected print articles just sat around gathering dust and were essentially a waste of time I wouldn't get paid for at all.
3. Do you think A.C Content can support a living?
I totally believe someone who is dedicated to making a living on AC could do so. I've seen some very successful CPs build up quite a nice little income just from their AC writing. A lot of it would just depend on how dedicated the CP is to succeeding, how much time and effort is put into AC, etc. If someone treats AC like a full time job, then I believe AC could pull a full time income.
4. How long have you been with A.C.?
As of this June 2008, I've been with AC for two years.
5. What are some of your best articles you have written?
I am very proud of my continuing educational series articles on AC. I've posted them for performance payment only. I think they are in depth looks at what is going wrong and is wrong with the educational system in America today. I plan to continue writing this series as I discover new things.
6. What kind of topics do you like writing about?
I like to write about weird stuff: sex health, weird things in the news, stuff that upsets me so I can write about it and vent professionally. I also like to write things that make people think or teaches them something perhaps they didn't know.
7. Who is one of your absolute favorite content producers on A.C. Content, and Why?
I've really taken a shine to Will Wright's content. http://www.associatedcontent.com/user/38084/will_wright.html I find him insightful, humorous, unassuming, and I love his tone and style. More than anything, he makes me laugh without really being 'in your face' sarcastic.
8. Do you write for fun, or for an extra income?
Writing and editing are both my hobby and my job. I work from home, doing what I love, so I guess you could say I write both for fun and for full time income.
9. How long do you plan on staying with A.C and Why?
As long as they'll have me. It's nice to have a place to come to where I can write about whatever I want to write about and not just what some editor wants to read or publish. I could probably do this on my blogs, if I wanted, but I enjoy that part of AC, but more than just blogging, because here, I get paid for it and get to interact with some great writers.
10. What is your least favorite topic you've have to write about?
Well, that's the nice thing about AC. I don't have to write about anything I don't want to write about.
11. If there was one thing you would want to change about A.C what would it be, and Why?
I'd like to see a bit better upfront pay for writers who have proven themselves, perhaps also see a bit higher performance pay or performance pay tiers for people who perform consistently well or high on page views. Communication could be improved too, with the staff and the CPs, but here recently, that's been greatly improving and I'm quite confident it will continue to do so.
12. What is your favorite thing about A.C Content, And Why?
Probably the forum and the networking and friendship with the other writers. I enjoy working with and coaching writers who aspire to freelance for a living or who have a dream of being a writer. I like to think that each question I answer that helps someone move toward that goal in some small way makes me a part of someone living their dream. There is truly nothing better than that!
13. What is your least favorite thing about A.C Content, And Why?
The ratings system on the articles. I'd like to see those removed completely, since they rarely mean anything but outsiders to the site see them and think they do.
14. What do you plan on writing about next?
I have an article on farting I'm about to submit. Yes, that's right, farting. I wonder about me sometimes.
15. Last question! How do you pick your topics? I don't know.
I think it would be more accurate to say that my topics pick me. I can go to the bathroom and think of something to write about. Take a drive, and I think of something to write about. It seems I'm never truly at a loss for topics to write about, it's just finding the time to actually write them that is my problem!
The end of the interview with Michelle L Devon! I hope you have all enjoyed her interview and have gotten to know Michelle a little better! Thanks Michelle L Devon!
