Michelle Williams' Unexpected: Review of Former Destiny's Child Member's Album

The Reviewer
Michelle Williams has always been seen as the third member of Destiny's Child. She never received the same limelight or attention as original members Beyonce or Kelly Rowland. Yet Michelle paved a nice niche for herself in the gospel community. Now Michelle is back with her first non-gospel album Unexpected. Does Michelle deliver the Unexpected or does she flop?

The first single off of Unexpected is We Break The Dawn. The track has a more world and international appeal than you would expect from Michelle. The song has done well on dance radio yet it was not urban enough for urban radio. To cover her bases, Michelle included We Break The Dawn Part 2 produced by DJ Montay featuring Flo Rida. The track is solid in both versions.

The second single, The Greatest is produced by Jim Jonsin. The track shows Jim branching out in terms of produced as this song is nowhere near Lil Wayne's Lollipop or the Pretty Ricky songs he has produced. The track is a solid mid-tempo ballad.

Stop This Car is produced by R&B super producers StarGate. The song features elements of all the classic StarGate tracks however the song just does not capture that magic.

Rico Love produced Lucky Girl Interlude/Lucky Girl. The song continues with the euro-pop theme. The song is fairly catchy being as it is well produced and written.

Hungover is one of the better tracks on the album. The song features a catchy up-tempo beat and relaxed vocal melodies and harmonies which shine on the track.

Hello Heartbreak is another step in the direction of euro-pop. The song sounds similar to Timbaland's The Way I Are in several ways. The song probably will not be as successful as that monster hit but it is in the same ballpark.

Thank U is an interesting song with an interesting storyline lyrically. The song is also interesting melodically. The track is strong and well done.

The Rico Love produced Too Young For Love is the perfect way to close out the album. The song has an uplifting feeling and is filled with nice instrumentation and a strong vocal performance from Michelle.

Unexpected is a fairly solid album. As an artist, Michelle Williams fills a void in the marketplace with world-R&B. Overall Unexpected gets 7.5 out of 10. If you are a fan of Michelle Williams make sure you pick up Unexpected when it is available in stores on October 7th.
