Despite beating Ohio State, Michigan dropped a spot in the BCS rankings this week changing the Michigan BCS bowl projection situation a bit.
Many analysts still have the Wolverines in for the Sugar Bowl according to their Michigan BCS bowl projections but they still have a ways to go in order to obtain a spot.
Michigan BCS Bowl Projection: Sugar vs. Houston?
If everything falls right for the Wolverines, they could end up in the Sugar Bowl against the Houston Cougars. Houston is led by record-setting QB Case Keenum who would be facing a Wolverines secondary that just got torched by freshman OSU QB Braxton Miller.
This is one Michigan BCS bowl projection that fans would love to see, however, especially those who travel. Michigan needs to root for Georgia to lose to LSU thus preventing three SEC teams from possibly getting in. They also would love to see Oklahoma fall to Oklahoma State by as many points as possible to keep the Sooners out of the picture, and for Baylor to lose to Texas because the Bears are creeping up on UM in the Michigan BCS bowl projection picture.
Michigan BCS Bowl Projection: Left Out?
One ESPNU projection had Michigan left out in favor of Oklahoma State and Oklahoma as the two at-large teams. Michigan needs to get into the top 14 of the standings in order for the Michigan BCS bowl projection of the Sugar Bowl to come true, and they should pass the loser of Michigan State vs. Wisconsin in the Big 10 title game.
In a scenario where Michigan is left out, however, Oklahoma will beat Oklahoma State in a close game. Michigan does have one of the biggest fanbases in the country if not the biggest, however, potentially making them more attractive.
Current Standings and Michigan BCS Bowl Projection
The Wolverines are currently 16th in the BCS standings but they can make their move up this weekend if things fall right for. With Denard Robinson at QB and a hungry fanbase they would make a very attractive selection for any bowl as part of the Michigan BCS bowl projections.
But some forecasts have Michigan not making it as pointed out earlier. If the Wolverines don't get to the Sugar Bowl or another game they will likely play in the Capital One Bowl in Florida.
For now, however, the Michigan BCS bowl projection situation has many fans dreaming of a return to the big stage.
