Most people mistake Cheboygan Michigan as just another small town in a state that seems to be known for their small towns but Cheboygan is different in a lot ways. The biggest thing is that Cheboygan is more of a vacation spot than most smaller towns. Some people enjoy Cheboygan for some shopping while on vacation. Most people head up to Mackinaw City but others enjoy the strip in the heart of Cheboygan that offers everything from antique shops, to sports shops and even the movie plex. As most towns, Cheboygan offers stores such as Wal-Mart which you can pretty much find anything in along with certain restaurants as McDonalds, Big Boy, Pizza Hut and more.
The main attraction of Cheboygan would be Mullet Lake. People from all over state enjoy boating and fishing on this massive lake, which is beautiful no matter what time of year you visit it. Certain times of the year will be more crowded then others. Summer months will always be popular and the best time to visit would be early to late August once the rush dies down.
Most people visit Mullet Lake for the camping and that's at Aloha State Park. The park itself is very nice and clean and you can always find a wide variety of people from all over the state. At Aloha State Park, you should always make your reservations at least six months in advance since it's always a popular place. Aloha offers a boat basin for the boaters out there and also a cleaning table for whatever you may catch in Mullet Lake. Aloha offers bathrooms that are pretty clean and have showers that are open for use all day everyday except for one hour each day for cleaning. Aloha State Park is one of the better state parks in Michigan and is one of the main attractions for Cheboygan Michigan.
Mullet Lake is connected by the Indian River and the Cheboygan River, which are also very popular boating spots around Cheboygan. The Indian River will take you up to Burt Lake, which offers its own variety of camping and attractions. The river itself offers a wide variety of scenery from wild life, to amazing houses and marinas. The Cheboygan River will also offer the same things but most people enjoy it because it will take you into Lake Huron. You have to go through the locks in Cheboygan first which will cost you $6.00 for each way but it's worth it. Lake Huron is a very beautiful lake and most people enjoy taking a boat ride up to the Mackinaw Bridge. The bridge itself is visible once you exit the Cheboygan River into Lake Huron.
If you're ever near the top of Michigan, make sure you at least stop by or drive through Cheboygan. You can enjoy the view of the lake as you venture in towards town or if you want to stop to check out Lake Huron. If you enjoy boating or camping, Mullet Lake is a great vacation spot and so is Lake Huron. Both are located in Cheboygan Michigan so make sure you plan a trip up there sometime if you live in Michigan or are driving through.
