Mickey Rooney is allegedly being abused by his stepson, Chris Aber, as reported at Yahoo OMG. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Reva Goetz granted the 90-year-old actor a temporary restraining order from Aber, who is accused of withholding medication and food from the actor, as well as interfering in Rooney's personal finances.

Aber must stay 100 yards away from Rooney and his home and cannot contact Rooney until a hearing on February 24. Court filings regarding Aber state, "He yells and screams at Mickey. He threatens, intimidates, bullies, and harasses Mickey."

According to Help Guide, "Every year, tens of thousands of elderly Americans are abused in their own homes, in relatives' homes, and even in facilities responsible for their care." Elder abuse takes on various forms including physical, sexual, emotional, but also includes neglect, abandonment and financial or material exploitation.

Mickey Rooney not only received a restraining order against Aber, his attorneys obtained a temporary conservatorship for Rooney. This way, Rooney's financial interests are protected from Aber.

Mickey Rooney may be only 5' 2," but he was a mighty player in the Hollywood scene. Rooney, popular for films like "Boys Town," "Babes In Arms," and the "Andy Hardy" series, was the number one box office actor in the United States from 1939-1941. Beginning with Ava Gardner in 1942, Rooney was married 8 times.

The veteran actor has lived a long life, but he is still "sharp-witted." "I pray to God each day to protect us, help us endure, and guide those other senior citizens who are also suffering," said Rooney.

I hope that everything works out for him. Elder abuse is one of the most overlooked forms of abuse there is, and maybe this will bring more awareness of the subject. I only wish it hadn't been at Mickey's expense.

How horrible. I met him a few months ago at our casino... he's a very sweet old man! I'm very sad to hear this.

This kind of elder abuse is horrible. I am glad that Mickey can get his voice heard.
