Microsoft's newest gaming console, the sleek and slim Xbox 360 S isn't the only exciting gaming news the company had to offer the industry at this year's recent Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). The new console, which became available the same month as the show arrives ready for what may possibly be the standard in game controllers moving forward: Microsoft Kinect.

Kinect introduces a whole new way to play games. Similar to Wii controllers, Microsoft's solution also works with the concept of motion based control. Kinect however, will not require a control to be held at all. Based on a motion sensitive camera that sits atop the Xbox unit or television, and faces the player, Kinect will detect body movements, such as from the head, arms, and legs. The new technology from Microsoft also boasts the ability for detailed motion recognition to be read, including facial expressions.

The Kinect comes ready as plug-and-play. The latest Xbox incarnation includes a dedicated Kinect port, however, the new controller technology will be supported on all existing models of the Xbox 360s, but with an additional power cord requirement.

Several Kinect compatible titles in development have also made recent news. A handful of games that are to be released in conjunction with the unit are abuzz. Set in 20 different exotic locations, Kinect Adventures! will have players making their way through a variety of elements like river rapids, and an obstacle course. Kinect Joy Ride give players the experience of kart racing by putting them behind the virtual wheel. Racing as fast as they can to the finish, players will navigate obstacles, drift through corners, fly off jumps, and power through power-ups. Kinect Dance Central by Harmonix, the developrs of Rock Band, will deliver the first immersive dance video game that features and tracks full-body dance moves. Other games scheduled on the horizon for later this year when Kinect becomes available include Kinectimals, Your Shape Fitness Evolved, Zumba Fitness, and Adrenalin Misfits, and The Biggest Loser.

Microsoft Kinect, and upcoming compatible titles are scheduled to arrive in November of 2010, with many retailers taking preorders now. Kinect Sports will also allow players to experience full body play with six action-packed games - Soccer, Volleyball, Track & Field, Bowling, Table Tennis, and Boxing.
