Midnight Prayer: A New Year's Rum Cocktail

Tracy DeLuca
New Year's Eve is a great time to either attend or host a fabulous party. You have the menu planned, the music is ready to roll and the champagne is on ice for Midnight, but what are you missing? Maybe you need a special cocktail to serve your guests. Something that they have not had a million times and something that shows you care about them! Here, I have a recipe for a rum cocktail that I love. What I call a Midnight Prayer is similar to a Between the Sheets cocktail but is much lighter and fruitier. It gives a kick without knocking you down! Make sure to get a light rum for this as you do not want the rum flavor to overpower the peach flavor. You could also use apricot liquor or any similar light fruit flavored liquor as an alternative. You can purchase plastic cocktail glasses in many different colors and designs at any party supply store. Perhaps you could have a different color glass just for this cocktail. Make it distinctive and fun and let your guests know that this cocktail is being served especially for them.

Midnight Prayer

Ingredients:

3/4 oz of peach schnapps

1 oz of light rum

1/2 oz of triple sec

1/2 oz of lemon juice

lemon twist for garnish

Pour all of the ingredients ( minus the garnish) into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist or even a sliver of peach. You could also place a sliver of peach directly in the bottom of the glass before pouring in the cocktail. I would suggest trying to tie in the drink to your party decorations. Perhaps, you could have a giant peach pinata to drop at midnight! Have fun with the drink and your party plans and remind your guests to drink responsibly.
