Mid-Season Spoiler Alert: How I Met Your Mother

The whole premise of How I Met Your Mother is to get a better feel of who Ted Mosby was before he met his future wife. As part of this story telling, we get to learn all about Ted and his friends, and wait patiently until this mystery woman shows up.

The show is in its third season, with an amazing cast of characters, and intelligently witty writing. While one of the most popular sitcoms on television, the spoilers are tough to come by. Occasionally, you can find some info on the upcoming episodes a few days prior to the scheduled air date. But as far as the big questions...Let's see what we can dig up.

The last episode completed before the writer's strike is titled The Platinum Rule and airs December 10 at 8 PM on CBS. Ted asks his doctor out on a date, and the gang tries to discourage him by sharing their horror stories of getting into disastrous relationships with people they had to see on regular basis. SpoilerFix.com reports that flashbacks include: Robyn's hook up with sportscaster Curt "the Iron Man" Irons, Barney's hook up with a woman named Wendy, and Marshall and Lilly's double dates with their neighbors Laura and Michael.

Bad news - it looks like this episode will mark the season finale. If the writers' strike is over prior to the end of this year (which is doubtful), the show will continue production and air its next new episode on March 3. In the even that the writers' strike continues for an extended period of time, The Platinum Rule will be the season finale and the show will return in the fall of 2008. These timelines have been confirmed earlier on the CBS web site.

What were we hoping to see this season?

A sneak peak into the mystery woman Ted falls for was not planned for season three, but we know a yellow umbrella is involved, so we have something to look out for at the beginning of season four.

Robyn and Barney have evident chemistry on-screen. Is the romance between these two a possibility? Kristin from E! Online offers us this insight from Chris Thomas - no comment. Other online rumors imply a drunken kiss is likely, but the show's staff isn't letting us in on this plot line.

Barney gets a girlfriend. We have already gotten a flashback to Hippie Barney. We recognize that there is a suppressed sensitive alter ego to Suit Up! Barney. Is it possible that there is a woman who will grab his attention for longer than a night? The show creators seem to confirm this; however, with the writers' strike still in full force, we will not know this for sure until new episodes are written.
