Paris Hilton has been in the news so often and for so long, it might seem to some that the American media perhaps has spent an inordinate amount of time on the heiress and her antics. For whatever reason, Paris Hilton makes headlines everywhere she goes, for even the most mundane events, and the patience of the American public is wearing thin. Mika Brzezinski is likely not the only person who feels this way.
Industry analysts explain the social contradiction by pointing out the social zeitgeist that is the internet; Bloggers and webmasters all trying to boost their ratings with the most popular search terms. Terms like Paris Hilton sex tape, or Paris Hilton Exposed. These are two of the most popular search terms on Google at this very moment, and web publishers use them repeatedly to saturate their pages with rich keyword content.
When clueless television and newspaper executives see this type of trend, they believe this is the hot new thing that needs to be reported on. In reality, most of these searches are conducted by the type of people who never, ever watch the news. Generally speaking, the people looking for 'Paris Hilton sex tape' are not the demographic that a news channel really wants to target. But due to all the young males clicking away on the internet, it appears to those who don't know any better to be the issue of the day.
The truth is, many people are tired of hearing about spoiled media darlings like Paris Hilton. It is highly unlikely that the people who are watching your televised news programs are not the same people watching Paris Hilton Exposed and One Night In Paris, and that media executives are wasting time even attempting to reach such a demographic. Some might be so bold as to suggest that media outlets should just report only hard news. It's doubtful such a radical concept would ever get very far, as evidenced by the fact that entertainment news is more popular than any other type of news broadcast at this point. We may be in for plenty more Paris on television.
