Mike Herrera Rocks Baltimore with Just His Acoustic Guitar and Voice

MxPx Punker Hits East Coast with a Friend and a Guitar

Mike Spain
Mike Herrera played the Ottobar in Baltimore , Maryland on April 24, 2011 . Mike Herrera is best known for fronting the punk band MxPx . This time around it is just Mike and his acoustic guitar. Herrera had plenty of local support acts as Quiet Life Rebellion, Younger Years, and Run the Risk were the opening act. Mike's friend Louis DeFabrizio of Gasoline Heart opened for him and also joined in on a few songs.

Louis DeFabrizio was perfect to open for Mike Herrera. Louis played with no band and his electric guitar. He was a nice transition from the loud, rowdier bands to Mike Herrera and his acoustic guitar. The local bands stuck around to check out Mike's set. The tour is simple, two friends on tour together with no bands, no roadies, just two guitars, tour dates, and a car.

Mike Herrera was in an upbeat mood. As expected he pulled material from his latest "Live From the Basement" collection. Mike performed the alt country songs of his band Tumbledown and the punk songs from MxPx. Herrera took requests from his fans. Not everything was meat to be played solo on the acoustic guitar but Mike tried the songs he thought would. The ones he messed up, Herrera still had a fun time trying.

Highlights for me were his version of "Arrested in El Paso Blues" a Tumbledown song and "Drowning." Herrera even covered "I've Just Seen a Face" by the Beatles. Louis joined Herrera on a drum for three songs at the end. If you are looking for a good time check out Mike Herrera on a rare East Coast tour. Mike Herrera is a talented musician who likes to have a good time.

His tour continues with dates in Charlotte , North Carolina , Greenville , South Carolina , Atlanta , Georgia , Winter Park , Florida , Tallahassee , Florida , Anniston , Alabama , Chattanooga , Tennessee , and Nashville , Tennessee in April and May.
