Could This Be the Last?

Mike Modano, a long-time supporter of Former Head Coach, Dave Tippett was thrown off when his former teammate, Joe Nieuwendyk let him go last week.

That didn't change Modano's mind, as he has mentioned that he will good on his committment to the owner of the Dallas Stars and play for his 20th NHL Season for the team that drafted him.

Modano, 39 took a month off to see if he still had it in him to play another season. Already under contract and the last year of his five-year deal, Modano has decided to stay put and his cap hit will be the same at $2.25 million next season.

The Number One overall pick in 1988, Modano has been with the Stars organization back when they were the Minnesota North Stars. Last season, he had 15 goals, 31 assists in 80 games. The 543 career goals and 1,329 points earned him to be the top American-born scorer. He's appeared in three Stanley Cup Finals, winning his only Cup in 1999, with now General Manager, Nieuwendyk.

After reaching the Western Conference Finals in 2008, the standard was set for next season, but an injury plauged season to their core players, and a controversial signing of Sean Avery basically put the Stars down for the count.

Just last week, as Stars Management reassigned Les Jackson and Brett Hull as Co-GM, Nieuwendyk was announced as the replacement, and in his first act, he let go of Head Coach Dave Tippett and replaced him with Marc Crawford.

If only, then maybe Minnesota will forgive him.

Return home to Minnesota Mike. Your time is done there in Dallas. You can help this team win the Stanley cup. That would motivate you and you need that. Forget the owner and do what is right for you.

Your were drafted in Minnesota a hockey community and that is where you should return
