For the last five years Mike Rowe has done just about every dirty job there is. As the host of a program that according to the show's opening he "goes around the country looking for men and women who aren't afraid to get dirty."
MikeRoweWorks.com looks like a construction site. You can click on various items such as a backhoe, or a Porta-Potty which leads you to Mike's Reading Room. (Yeah I know but it is kind of funny if you think about it.) This is a link to videos in which Mike answers questions about MikeRoweWorks.com. You can also click on notebooks sitting on a work table that takes you to educational links. The idea behind MikeRoweWorks.com is a good one. Here you can find many work related resources in an environment that is low keyed, and not intimidating.
MikeRoweWorks.com has a mission statement which basically says that this country has redefined the word work and only seems to emphasize professions that require a college degree. We seem to have forgotten about jobs that are done by men and women who go to work clean, and come home dirty. People who do jobs that most of us don't want to do. These are the jobs that built this country, and without the rest of us would not be able to function.
What would you do without people who pick up your garbage, who keep the sewers functioning, who pick up dead animals from the side of the road?
This is the focus of MikeRoweWorks.com. There are several sections to the site. There is The Office. The Office has articles on the infrastructure of working, what is happening in the job market, and other articles that affect those in the job market.
Another section of MikeRoweWorks.com is The Tool Shed. Here you find tips, tools and information form professional tradesmen. Mike calls it a Trade Resource Center. You can get professional advice from those who know what they are talking about.
There is The Job Site. MikeRoweWorks.com has set this up as a job board. There are links to various hiring sites, and educational resources that can help someone find a good job and the resources on how to get the proper training to keep it.
Then you have The Scrap Yard. This is kind of a miscellaneous area. Here you find information about Mike Rowe, outtakes from some of the Ford commercials he has done, and just fun stuff.
MikeRoweWorks.com is a serious site, even though Mike Rowe has set it up with a ton of tongue in cheek. It's how he rolls. He is serious about his intention to help change the infrastructure of America. Our workforce was once one of the proudest and most skilled. MikeRoweWorks.com is dedicated to helping find a way to make us that way again.

Post a CommentFolks, I appreciate all of the comments here, but I need to tell you that I am not Mike Rowe. If you want your sentiments to reach Mike, I would suggest you head over to http://www.mikeroweworks.com/
Hello Mike, after seeing your speech about testicles and peripity I felt compelled to write. I'm 61 yrs. old, finishing my Masters' in Education, I teach a substance abuse program in a prison and I've worked as a peace officer for over 26 yrs. I've sold insurance and securities, driven cab, worked as a steam-cleaner for a company that cleaned everything from shopping carts to trash dumpsters, cleaned glue out of a 20' diameter vat for a paper company that made the fluted insides for Listerine mouthwash bottles, worked as a hod carrier for a construction company, lugged a jack-hammer around and dug ditches for the Gas Company, been a mechanic, carried an M-14 and an M-60 in Vietnam around for a year and probably done a couple dozen jobs that I can't even remember. Ms. Angela Cazzola is right, these kids need to get their hands dirty before they can direct and lead middle America's hard-working citizen's. Keep up the great work! Our country needs someone like you to light the fire under

you're the evander holyfield"the real deal" of us blue collar types.
we so very much hohor a guy willing, most times eager, to go in the trenches and share the nitty gritty, the backbone, guts and intestines of a still functioning society.
as a former "chicken picker" i admire your tenacity and courage.
keep up the good work
we love ya man
hi mike. i am a retired high school teacher. i agree with you on so many levels. yes, many of the college bound kids are doing the right thing. but......so many are just looking for something to do before they have to really grow up and make a living. we have missed the boat by closing or cutting back on vocational training and technical schools. guidance counselors have missed the boat in advising parents and kids. we need all kinds of capable people to run this country. an education should prepare you for a specific area of work that usually calls for a license of some sort. for gods sake, stop this mania of college educated kids who go no where. not good for them . not good for society.......moms and dads, wake up!thanks for reading. a. cazzola
Mike Rowe is the most outstanding TV personality. He enters into showing us jobs that are rarely exposed and amazes me how many filthy places he can submit himself to visit, often without wearing a face mask or covering. His personality and wit make these episodes entertaining as well as informative. He really is a great guy and true American.
I love Dirty Jobs & Deadliest Catch and the way you present both in an informative and entertaining way.Never stop ! I am sixty years young 9/02/09 and unemployed 3 years, seems geezers are undesirable candidates in todays job market. We are as much a part of the economic growth as the most recent college grads because we are reliable and wise and willing to WORK.Your shows prove that very point.Thank you !
I have alot of respect for you Mike because of what you do I raised my two boys to do what ever job they could do to earn a living but the town we live in they donot have a chance so you are one heck of a guy and I love your show
