Milani Minerals Talc-Free Compact Makeup Review

Julie James
I've worn liquid foundation for years. My pale skin tends toward being blotchy and red in certain areas, and I do suffer from the occasional blemish. When the mineral foundation craze began, I resisted. I'd worn the liquid foundation for years, and loved it. Then one day while shopping for my normal liquid foundation, the store was out of it. I was going to be needing foundation very soon and was not going to have time to shop again for the next several days. After walking around the cosmetics section of the discount store and reading the ingredients and claims of each mineral foundation, I decided to try Milani Mineral Talc-Free Compact Makeup. Because of my pale skin, I chose the shade, "Buff Nude".

This mineral foundation comes in a large compact that is around 3 1/2" in circumference, and about 3/4" thick. Through the top of the compact, you can see through the clear plastic to help you judge your shade preference.

One of the biggest reasons I chose this mineral makeup over others is because it is talc-free. I have combination skin that breaks out easily if I'm not careful about certain ingredients. It is also claimed to be non-comedegenic.

After unwrapping the protective plastic around the compact, I found the raised area of plastic to push up on and opened the compact. The compact actually has two compartments. The top compartment is the pan containing the mineral foundation. If you flip up the top compartment it will reveal a mirror, and a flocked round applicator which sits on the plastic bottom that contains many holes for ventilation.

I knew immediately I didn't want to use the round applicator as I prefer brush application. I took my thick, fluffy, brush and tapped it onto the foundation twice. Once I had inspected the brush, I saw that those two light taps left quite a bit of the powder on the brush. I applied the product in a circular motion all over my face, starting in the center and working my way out to the hairline. I couldn't believe the coverage! While it did take time for the powder to not look so powdery on my face, I experienced outstanding coverage which rivals most liquid foundations I've ever used.

I can wear this foundation all day long with little fading or oil breakthrough. I do still have to dab my oily t-zone, but I've found that this mineral foundation does quite a nice job.

A couple of tips: If my skin is a little dry, I've learned I must use moisturizer before using this product as the powder will simply make the dry areas look worse. In addition, if I have a blemish, I will first use a small dab of liquid foundation for coverage, then lightly dust with mineral powder after to set it.

With Milani Mineral Talc-Free Compact Makeup, I do not experience any caking or shade-changing over the course of the day. I've also found the product to be quite buildable for more coverage. I will admit that I do still use liquid foundation from time-to-time (old habits die hard), but this mineral makeup is my go-to everyday foundation. It's inexpensive, too!
