On a night like this
Where the air is thick
And cold
And demands a sort
Of attention
That I am unwilling to give,
On a night like this
Is where we say goodbye
For the millionth time
It never gets easier
And it always hurts more
Than the time before
I know that love will
Get us through it all
But sometimes
The thought of fighting
Is frightening
Weeks will go by
There will still be
Rainy nights
There will still be
Awkward fights
There will still be
Times that I
Cry myself to sleep
But the only difference now
Is that you won't be there
To hold me and tell me
what I always need to hear
Where the air is thick
And cold
And demands a sort
Of attention
That I am unwilling to give,
On a night like this
Is where we say goodbye
For the millionth time
It never gets easier
And it always hurts more
Than the time before
I know that love will
Get us through it all
But sometimes
The thought of fighting
Is frightening
Weeks will go by
There will still be
Rainy nights
There will still be
Awkward fights
There will still be
Times that I
Cry myself to sleep
But the only difference now
Is that you won't be there
To hold me and tell me
what I always need to hear

Post a CommentSuper Poetry, Sarah! I went to Michigan State, too. Met my husband on a summer job between my sophmore & junior years. We've been married 25 years now! Hard to believe, when I remember back toward those years at the university. I'm sure it's changed a lot. Really enjoyed your work here...I remember it was tough surviving the distance between Saint Ignace & E. Lansing while I finished school. Was worth the wait though! Thanks again for a great read....Kim
Very sad; but a great poem!
Great Poem!
