Miley Cyrus is Causing Controvery Again

MIley Cyrus Kissing a Girl is Just the Latest in a String of Eyebrow-Raising Behavior

For young superstar Miley Cyrus, kissing a girl on the June 3, 2010 episode of "Britain's Got Talent" is just one in a string of behaviors that people have questioned.

Miley Cyrus seems to be trying to prove that she is a wild child, but to some she comes off as more of a spoiled brat.

The girl on girl kiss in Can't Be Tamed was controversial not because it was a woman kissing another woman. (Unlike Adam Lambert's guy on guy kiss, women kissing each other is usually not a big deal to television fans). The issue was that this there is an actual girl involved. Miley Cyrus is only 17 years old. If the backup singer involved is over 21, the act could have been illegal.

Before this little issue, Miley Cyrus was criticized for a video of her giving a lap dance to a man in his 40s. Miley was 16 years old at the time. The man involved is gay, but the act was still inappropriate in many people's eyes. It was particularly troublesome to many because it happened in front of children under the age of 12.

Miley's dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, made the whole thing worse when he defended his daughter by saying that she was just doing what people her age do.

The first time Miley Cyrus really made headlines for bad behavior was when she performed a pole dance on the Kids Choice Awards. It was a bad choice for a kid performer and a really bad choice for a television show made specifically for kids.

Perhaps Miley is attempting to break out of her squeaky clean Hannah Montana reputation by causing parents of her pre-teen fans to realize she is not a great choice for a role model. The problem is that for Miley Cyrus to reinvent herself as an adult entertainer, she is going to have to make sure that she can portray herself as a serious actress or singer. (Miley recently said she was putting her singing career on hold in order to focus on being a movie star.) So far she has not been able to make that happen.

Many people are shocked by Miley Cyrus' actions, but even more are shocked by her parents' reaction or lack of reaction. It seems that if a teen makes enough money, she is no longer subject to her parents' guidance. Perhaps parents of young superstars should take notice. Hopefully Miley Cyrus will not end up like Lindsay Lohan, but she seems to be starting from the same place.
