MILEY CYRUS and Our Desire to Change

What do you think about Miley Cyrus' new music video CANT BE TAMED?

It is out. Miley Cyrus's new music video, "Can't Be Tamed" is out. I was schocked to see last week or so the over 7 million hits that video had. So my curiosity led me to watch the video, too. I regret watching it. I thought it was too mature for Miley to act like that at her age and it was too drastic of a change from Hannah Montana. Nevertheless, she has a lot of fans, too. You can read the comments posted under the video and find out the opinions of many about it.

It is said when our children believe they have to change so radically in order to make money and to be accepted. Success is now believed to be money and fame, or being number one.

I have a 5 year old daughter and will not allow her to watch things with withcraft or bad things in them. Success is not money or fame. I like what the Bible says, that a wise person wins souls. I think that is success: making friends and winning people over. Yes, my little girl tries to fit in and she gets her feelings hurt when some kids push her or do other things, but I always teach ehr to love them anyway and walk away. Not that she has that happening alot because she is realy kind and lovable. But things happen and kids are kids.

Our kids desire to change and fit in, but we are the parents and we need to make sure that just like a fragile limb of tree that is growing, they need to be directed in which way to grow.

I am not the perfect parent. Sometimes I cry in secret about my failures as a parent and ask God to change me, but I cannot dwell there. I need to get up and try better. And we all make mistakes, but there has to be a general idea in what directions we want our kids to grow.

This month of June, I told my daughter we will not watch any TV. It just takes so much of our time. I purposely bought toys or invented some that will take both of us to be involved and spend time together. No video games, but good old BINGO, Hangman, freesbee in the parc, playing ball, etc. One day she will remember the time I spent with her. I do not remember much of watching TV with my dad, but I do remember him playing ball with me or chess.

How do you spend your time with your kids? Are you so busy with your job that you have no time for them? Are you so into TV when you come home that you cannot take 5 minutes to read a book to your child? It is time for us to change. It is time for us to care for our kids. I know that there are really good parents out there and I know that there are parents out there that are hurting inside because they want to change and be with their kids more and make an impact but the situations in their lives are not allowing it. May I encourage you to pray then for God to make a way for that to change? He cares about us. He cares about families and children. He cares about raising our kids His way. He will make a way. Just trust Him and wait patiently on Him.
