Miley Cyrus Rocks NY Central Park with Bret Michaels

The New-look Miley Cyrus is a Big Hit with Central Park Concert-goers

It's Saturday, 19 June in Australia, but as we are a day ahead over here, so it is Friday in the US. I awoke to see Good Morning America "live". The star attraction at their NY Central Park summer concert series was Miley Cyrus who sang solo and a duet with '80's rocker Bret Michaels.

Looking and sounding like a modern version of Suzi Quatro, Miley belted out her hit song and title track of her new album Can't Be Tamed. She then welcomed Bret Michaels to the stage and they performed Every Rose has its Thorn. Miley told GMA host Robin Roberts the duet song is mostly for her Mom, but that her first concert was with Michaels' former band Poison. The song and Bret obviously have nostalgic value for Miley - and her Mom.

Michaels called Cyrus' version "awesome" and said he was thrilled to perform it with her, even though he joked that "it was six octaves higher than I normally sing it."

The performance is a comeback for Michaels, who recently resumed touring following a brain hemorrhage that nearly killed the rocker in March.

"My way of healing is making music, is going back on the road," Michaels told Billboard this week.

Included in that music is a duet with Cyrus called Nothing to Lose, which will appear on his upcoming solo album, Custom Built.

Miley has certainly thrown off her teen image as Hannah Montana with her new look and album. She can't stay a Disney teen icon forever, and her new rock image is just what is needed to satisfy her existing fan base who have grown up with her, and to attract a more mature following. The crowd certainly wasn't made up of teenie boppers with a predominance of adults swarming around the stage.

"There's something about this kind of pop rock sound that's so much fun to perform live," Cyrus said on "GMA."

The crowd at Central Park included many fans who showed up early in the morning to secure the best vantage points for the live concert. Miley also wowed them with a rendition of her hit song Party in the U.S.A.

Miley will certainly be around for a long time as she switches between her music and movie commitments.

Bret Michaels is returning to touring just before the release of his new album on July 6.

"I've been on tour for awhile now after I came out of the hospital," he said.

Cyrus will perform Monday at the House of Blues in Los Angeles.
