Milk is it Good for You?

"DRINK YOUR MILK" As a child you probably heard this many times. Many Americans seem to think that milk is vital for development. When I was breastfeeding my daughter actually had one person ask me "don't you have to drink milk, to make milk". Many people think that milk is the only way of getting the calcium you need. Why does everyone feel this way? Humans are the only mammal that continues to drink milk after we have been weaned from our mothers. Why do we really want to drink something that is secreted liquid from cows. Mommy cows make milk for baby cows, we aren't baby cows why should we drink cow milk. I breastfeed my daughter but I wouldn't expect other people to drink my milk, would you want to drink milk from another human? At least if you drank milk from another human it would have been made for a human, not for a cow.

There are many doctors that agree milk is not good for you. Cows are given growth hormones so they will make more milk. They are also given antibiotics to keep them healthy. We then pasteurize the milk which destroys all the valuable enzymes, which makes milk harder to digest. Many doctors believe that milk leads to childhood diabetes. Doctors are also concerned about contamination of milk by blood cells and white cells (pus). Milk causes many problems in young children such as ear infections, Asthma, intestinal bleeding, allergies. In adults the problems with milk tend to be heart disease, arthritis, leukemia, and also allergies.

Here is another scary fact, fifty years ago an average cow produced 2,000 pounds of milk per year. Today the top producers give 50,000 pounds! Why was there such a change? Because they are now giving the cows drugs, antibiotics, hormones, forced feeding plans and specialized breeding. The newest thing they are doing is giving cows BGH or Bovine Growth Hormone. BGH is a genetically engineered drug that stimulates milk production. There have been no long term studies to see how BGH effects humans that drink the cows milk. I don't know how you feel about it, but I know I don't want to experiment by ingesting a bovine growth hormone.

Also all cows milk contains blood. The USDA actually allows the milk to contain one and a half million white blood cells per milliliter (thats 1/30th of an ounce) Do you really want to drink a cows blood? It sounds horrible to me.

It comes down to a personal choice of whether you choose to dink milk or not. Just realize that milk is not the only place you can get vitamins such as calcium and vitamin D, supplemented Orange juice is just one option to get these vitamins. I suggest that you do some research before you continue to drink something that nature did not intend for humans.
