Miller's Essenplatz Family Restaurant located in Newark Ohio will be closing their doors mid January 2011.

Miller's Essenplatz Family Restaurant first opened in Newark Ohio in Feb 1994 and has been known as a staple of Newark for 17 years.

Known for their homemade baked goods and family style dinners, they made their niche as a Christian run family restaurant. Owned by Marlin and Ruth Miller, the restaurant employed many other family members over the years and includes a gift shop and banquet facilities.

The Ohio Division of Taxation investigated the Miller's Family Restaurant and discovered that they had failed to pay approximately $120,000.00 in sales tax.

Miller's business also faces charges of aggravated theft which is a third degree felony in Ohio.

According to a statement on the Miller's Family Restaurant website, http://www.millersessenplatz.com/ the Miller's state "Our banquet facilities will be available through January for Christmas parties, Office parties, family dinners, business meeting, etc."

The Licking County Aging Program has entered into negotiations with the Miller's to purchase the building for their LCAP Headquarters (currently located in Zerger Hall) and Senior Citizens Program. One of the terms of the agreement is for the Miller's to repay debtors with the proceeds from the sale so that LCAP can obtain a good clear title to the property.

Miller's Oak Furniture is also located in the same building as Miller's Family Restaurant but is owned by Miller's brother-in*law David Miller. David Miller has stated that they will move the furniture business across the street to a new location and continue the furniture business. Miller's Oak Furniture will be moving to their new location in January 2011.
