Milli Umizoomi Halloween Costume:
Try shopping at a secondhand or a children's resale store for clothing items in this article. If you can't find what you are looking for, take your search online.
What you'll need:
Pink snug fitting hat (such as a swim cap, found here)
Yellow ribbon
Red ribbon
Red pipe cleaner
Pink sundress (with or without a flower print)
Pink long sleeved shirt
Pink leggings
Pink shoes (with or without buckle)
Light pink puffy paint
Thread
Needle
Red felt (optional)
Putting it together:
When you put together your costume, just remember that it doesn't have to be exact. If you have the style of the costume, kids who watch the show will know exactly who your child is.
First you'll want to use the pink puffy paint to make flower patterns on the hat and the sundress (unless you've bought one with a flower pattern already on it). Use this picture of Milli as your inspiration for the flower design.
After the paint has dried, cut a yellow length of ribbon that will fit along the rim of the hat and sew it on. Now cut two ribbons in red that will dangle from the hat. You can determine the length but make sure it's at least three or more inches long. Tangle it with the red pipe cleaner so that it will stick up and curve in the air. Take a small piece of yellow ribbon and make circles so that you can sew it at the bottom of the red ribbon on the cap.
If you want your child to have red hair like Milli, take the red felt and cut it in Milli's hair shape that pokes out from under her hat and sew it inside the cap at the edge.
Have your child dress in the pink long sleeved shirt, followed by the sundress and the pink leggings. The last step is the shoes. If you have shoes that have a buckle already, all you need to do is cut two pieces of yellow ribbon in a small circle shape and apply it to one area of the shoe where the shoe hooks at the top. You can sew or glue it on. If you want to skip the ribbon altogether on the shoe, buy a circular yellow sticker (sold for pricing items at sales, etc) and place it on the shoe. If the shoe does NOT have a buckle, you will need to use pink ribbon to make a strap that goes across the top of the foot.
Geo Umizoomi Halloween Costume:
Geo is the boy on Umizoomi and his costume is easy to put together!
What you'll need:
Blue hat (one that fits snug on your head like a swimming cap, you can find one here)
Light orange ribbon
Thread
Needle
Super glue
Game board pieces in red (like the ones found here. Search your old board games, you might have some!)
Long sleeved blue shirt (multi tone at the arms optional)
Blue paints (in the same shade of blue as the skirt)
Sneakers
Fabric paint in blue and light orange
Green felt
Yellow felt
Scissors
Sturdy cardboard in four pieces
Pale orange string
Blue felt
Putting it together:
For your hat, you'll simply want to cut a strand of orange ribbon and sew it on the outline of the cap by following the picture of Geo here. You will also want to sew on some blue felt at the edge of the face area so that it looks like Geo's hair peeking through. For the "antennas" on the cap, superglue the game board pieces in the appropriate areas or use Velcro if you're not comfortable with using only glue on the cap.
For the belt, make a cardboard square that will fit your child around the waist. Leave one side unhooked as you'll need to hook it when your child is going to wear it for Halloween. Carefully use fabric paint and paint the cardboard a pale orange. Use green and yellow felt to cut out triangle, square and circle shapes. Glue three pieces on each side of the cardboard in the order of triangle, square and circle. When you are ready to put it on your child, tape the last piece after it's on your child and use string to tie the front OR back part of the box to your child's pants or belt. That is the only part that will be connected to your child. The rest will stick out so it will look like the square belt that Geo wears in the show.
The shoes won't exactly match Geo because if you tried to have the two pieces stuck at the bottom of your child's shoes like Geo does, your child would probably fall down! So take the shoes and use fabric paint. Paint the very bottom a pale orange so it is the same color as the bottom pieces of Geo's shoes. Now paint the next part blue all the way around the shoes. Next paint the toes of the shoe pale orange. The rest of the top of the shoe and the ankle is painted blue.
After everything is tried, dress your child in their blue clothing, put on their hat, belt and shoes and they'll be ready for an adventure!
