Million Dollar Hole-in-One for Golfer Jason Hargett

A Benefit Golf Tournament Netted 35-year-old Jason Hargett $1 Million for Sinking a Hole-in-One

A million dollar hole-in-one was accomplished by golfer Jason Hargett on Tuesday. The million dollar hole-in-one took place at a benefit golf tournament that was being hosted by a former basketball player, and a day on the course that he won't soon forget. It's a great news story, because not only did he sink a seemingly impossibly shot, but he wasn't even supposed to be in the tournament. He was a last minute replacement player on the team, and almost opted not to play due to a wrist injury that he was suffering. The decision to stick it out and play in the tournament is turning out to be one of the best of his life. Let's call it a million dollar decision.

It all took place when Jason Hargett took his brother's 9-iron and let fly an arcing shot on the hole. The ball hit behind the pin by at least 10 feet, and then slowly rolled back downhill and into the cup. At first it looked like nobody knew what had happened, or maybe that they were just in shock, but then all the spectators at the tent began celebrating. Jason Hargett took off in a sprint towards the hole in his excitement, but he didn't make it far before turning around and getting tackled by his partner. It was a great moment, and one that nobody that was watching the tournament or participating in it is going to soon forget. It is also a wonderful story about the unexpected, and one of those gems that sports enthusiasts simply love hearing about.

Just from the interviews that Hargett gave after the hole-in-one (one is linked at end of article) he seems like a great guy that is deserving of the prize. The people that hosted the tournament probably thought that there was no chance that someone could get a hole-in-one on that hole, and it is one that really does have some tough terrain. If the ball hadn't rolled back to the hole, it could have rolled in any number of directions and been way off of the pin. This was Jason Hargett's day though, and he certainly has quite a story to tell his friends and family for the rest of his life.

The difficulty in achieving a hole-in-one on a golf course is a lot more pronounced than one might think. Non-golfers probably can't grasp how difficult it is to do this, and that some of the best golfers in the world has still never done it. It's also something that doesn't happen except in rare instances on any of the major golf tours. On Tuesday though, a restaurant manager and father of four proved that it wasn't impossible, and netted himself the prize of a lifetime.
