It was a pitching duel in the first five innings of game one of the best-of-five National League Divisional Series this afternoon as the Milwaukee Brewers hosted the Arizona Diamondbacks at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Arizona's Willie Bloomquist tried to score from second at the top of the first inning, but was gunned down at the plate by a massive throw from Brewer's outfielder, Ryan Braun.
Milwaukee threatened to score with two on base in the bottom of the second inning, but were unsuccessful. With none out, bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth inning, Jerry Hairston broke up the scoreless tie with a sacrifice fly to center field and brought in Braun from third base.
The Brewers threatened to the score again with two on base in the bottom of the fifth inning, but were unable to cash in a run.
In the next inning, though, Jonathan Lucroy drove in Yuniesky Betancourt from third (base) with a RBI single to give the Brewers a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Brewers went up 4-0 when Prince Fielder hit a two run homer.
The Diamondbacks finally got on the scoreboard at the top of the eighth innining when Ryan Roberts hit a solo home run.
John Axford came in at the top of the nineth inning and retired the Diamonbacks in order to give the Brewers the 1-0 series lead.
