Mineral Makeup: Beauty from Mother Nature

carolyn stevens
A few thousand years ago, beauty was born from minerals mined from the earth. However, it seems that this type of 'natural' beauty wasn't taken very seriously until recently. Researchers are now discovering the benefits of using the 'old natural' minerals when it comes to makeup. Listed below are some reasons for trading in your liquid makeup for some minerals that come straight from Mother Nature.

* By using mineral makeup, you receive instant satisfaction. This is because the reflective properties of the minerals allow light to bounce off the face and create a youthful glow. In addition, the mineral makeup binds to the skin instead of sinking in like others tend to. Because of its binding ability, mineral makeup will not become cakey and dry on your skin, while accentuating the fine lines. Mineral makeup also helps to hide imperfections like acne scars, circles under the eyes, and redness from rosacea. As a matter of fact, some plastic surgery and dermatology offices sell mineral makeup to cover up the bruising and inflammation that some people may experience after cosmetic procedures.

* The natural pigments found in mineral eye makeup will not fade during the day, while the artificial dyes in other eye makeup will, so there is less need to a touch up mid-day. In addition, the colors of the mineral eye makeup are more vibrant and deeper in tone. For women over forty, this is a real benefit. Mineral eye makeup comes in a wide variety of hues such as reds, browns, tans, blues, greens, and violets.

* Zinc oxide and titanium oxide are the base ingredients in mineral makeup. These same ingredients are also found in other sunscreen for blocking UVA and UVB rays. Therefore, by applying mineral makeup, you are applying sunscreen at the same time. However, the more protection, the better. If you still would prefer extra protection from the sun, simply apply some SPF 30 sunscreen on your face before applying the mineral makeup.

* Most mineral makeup produced contains no artificial dyes, fragrances, alcohol, preservatives, or oils, which can irritate the skin. What this means, is that people with sensitive skin can even use mineral makeup. It is still suggested that a patch test be done on the neck before using.

So, in order to really have the absolute 'natural' look, go online or go to a store and check out the makeup Mother Nature intended you to have.
