Mineral Makeup & Your Skin - A Happy Union!

Sophie Stillwell
Deciding to switch to mineral makeup is one of the best decisions I've ever made regarding not only my skin care, but also my beauty routine. For years, my skin was miserable under what felt like the heavy mask of traditional foundations. I would get breakouts on the skin in my T-zone, I would be embarrassed when people pointed out the line on my skin between foundation/bare skin, and - worst of all - it made my entire face break out in a sweat under any degree of exertion.

I was too self-conscious about the redness of the skin in my cheek area to go without foundation, and I expected I would have to suffer for the sake of vanity for the rest of my life - until I discovered mineral-based makeup. It's a little embarrassing to admit I ordered it off of an infomercial, but you have to understand I was desperate! Of course I was skeptical of the claims; I mean, how different could mineral makeup REALLY be from traditional foundations, right?

When my mineral makeup arrived in the mail, I eagerly opened the package and read EVERYTHING that came with it. I had ordered the basic starter kit, which came with a foundation, a blusher/bronzer, a finishing powder, and the necessary brushes. From the infomercial and the literature that came with the kit, I knew that it was better to start with just a tiny bit, so the very first time I used it, I barely had even the lightest dusting of it on my skin. I'll admit, at first I was a little disappointed - it didn't have the coverage like they showed on TV - but I added a little more, then a little more, and before I knew it, my skin had the coverage and glow they'd promised. It took very little time to learn exactly how much mineral makeup would get my skin looking its best, and once I knew the right amounts, putting it on was really fast and easy. The mineral bronzer and the finishing powder were just as easy to use, and my morning makeup routine was soon quick and easy.

Although I've experienced some great skin benefits (far less acne break-outs), one of the best things about mineral makeup is that you really do need just a little to get great skin coverage, so although it can seem very expensive at first, it turns out to be a great value. I've never found anything better or more comfortable to wear on my face to cover up the redness of the skin on my cheeks. And it feels so light on my skin, I have NEVER had the 'face sweat' issue I used to have with regular foundations.

I've been using mineral based makeup for almost as many years as it has been available, both brand name mineral makeup and generic brand mineral makeup. I will say that, while some generic brands (and these are usually sold on auction sites as the seller's "personal" mineral makeup line) are really fine quality, others have been pretty disappointing. I would recommend starting your mineral makeup journey with a well established brand first, then experimenting with lesser known, less expensive varieties until you find one that works well for you. While I (and a few friends) have managed to switch to a less expensive mineral makeup, I do have one or two friends who still stick with the more expensive varieties. Whichever brand you decide to stick with, I just know you AND you skin will thank me!

Thank you very much for this information. I'll have to try it. I've been using Physician's Formula, and I like it, but I've never tried mineral makeup. My biggest problem is my eyes watering after applying the makeup I'm currently using. I don't get it in my eyes, but it must be irritating them somehow.
