Compared with a content site, which can be hundreds of pages long, mini sites do not give a ton of information. The information is usually targeted towards one product and it's dedicated objective is to make a sale of that product.
If you want to build a profitable mini site, there are some basic factors that need to be taken into consideration. Believe it or not, your sales letter is not the end-all be-all of your site. More important is the design of the site. Most people who come by your site are in a hurry and want to know what you have that can benefit them now! If you're directing them to other pages, you just might lose them to a competitor. The key to focus on is making them stay longer.
Another factor in having a successful minis site is to limit the amount of pages it is. Your mini site shouldn't be longer than 10 pages. Any thing longer than that is either considered content or a super mini site. A super mini site is usually 25 - 40 pages and whose main purpose is the same as a regular mini site...to make a sale.
Here's a secret. If you're going to have a mini site, the best way to get your customer's attention is to give them something free. I know the whole point is to make money, but if you can give them something free, they'll remember you. And, you'll be able to collect their email address for further sales down the road. This way you won't just make one sale from them, you could make a hundred sales off them over the years. This is called list building.
The key to list building with your mini site is to give them something for being added to your list, and after that, you will be able to develop a relationship with them over time. Now you can not only send them to your initial mini site, but as you market more products, you can direct them to those mini sites also.
Mini sites are popular with money makers for one reason only, they work. Try your hand at mini sites and see what kind of success you can dream up.
