Materials
an old fashion clothespin - not the type with the spring
fabric
thin bendable wire
air dry clay
fabric
glue
acrylic craft paints
yarn and a fine tip paint brush
Take the clothespin and drill a small hole below the "head" (the round portion of the clothespin) in the approximate area where the shoulders would be. Take a piece of the bendable wire and insert the wire into the drilled hole. Determine the length of the arms, than cut with wire cutters. Now take a small amount of the clay and wrap it around the wires, molding the clay to shape the arms for your miniature doll. Let the clay dry.
Once the clay has dried completely, paint the head and arms with a flesh colored paint. Now use the fine tip paint brush to paint a face on to your miniature doll. If you are concerned with painting the tiny features, you could use a fine point sharpie pen to draw on the face. Do your best to give your miniature doll detailed features like: tiny pink or red lips, eyes with lashes and blushed cheeks.
To make the miniature dolls clothing, cut out small pieces of fabric and glue them onto the doll designing the dress as you go. You can keep it simple or design them to be as lavish as you like. Add lace trims, tiny beads, satin ribbons or any embellishments you want when designing their dresses. Now it is time to give your miniature doll some hair. You can give them different hair styles that you can create with the yarn. Add long braids, an up do with a bun, or leave it hanging long etc. Just glue the yarn to the head and start styling. You can even design a fancy little hat to place on your miniature dolls little head.
If you would like your miniature doll to stand. Take a small ball of clay and stick the dolls feet into it. Mold the clay around the feet and shape the bottom into a flat shaped disk. Prop the doll against something, in this standing position while the clay thoroughly dries.
Tip: If you do not have the tools to drill the arm holes. You can twist the bendable wire around the neck, just below the head, several times until it is tight. Then proceed as above.
These miniature dolls are fun and easy to make. So be creative and customize their dresses, hair color and hair styles in many different ways. As well as fitting nicely into doll houses, these pretty little ladies can be displayed on shelves, dressers or any place you like.
