Minimize that Runny Nose and Sneeze You Get Every Season

Tips to Staying Healthy

Jim Kelly
No body actually likes getting sick. You miss a day of work and stay in bed watching The Price Is Right and bad soap operas as you eat soup and drink some terrible tasting medicine. Today with the amount of diseases and colds going around the amount of shard space we all spend with each other, it really is hard not to get sick. I personally haven't been sick in over two years (knock on wood) and its because I try to keep myself out of harms way when it comes to colds and diseases. Here are some of the tricks I've picked up from over the years.

1. Wash your hands as often as possible. You really have no idea how much you touch that other people touch until you think about it. That door going into Panera Bread, that pencil you were given at work, computers, books, papers, money, pretty much all you come in contact with during the day has been touched by someone else who isn't washing their hands. Carry some Purell around with you if you don't have the opportunity to wash your hands every time you feel like you touched something someone else has.

2. Vaccines. Get vaccinated for the flu. It may cost you a mere $26 but the hospital bills and doctors bills will be way higher if you end up catching it.

3. Drink more water. Up your defenses against colds and sneezes with water. it keeps you healthy and more likely to fight off bacteria. Try your best to drink about 30-40 ounces of water a day.

4. Expose yourself to the weather. Every morning get up and out of bed and take a walk. Exposure to cold after being warm boosts your immune system. Plus the Vitamin E from the sun well help your body as well!

5. If you feel sick, take the day off. Don't increase your chances of catching a cold when your immune system is down and don't further the burden by going back out and working all day. Get some rest and heal up for tomorrow.

6. If you're really sick, go to the doctors. I know a lot of people who will outright refuse to go see their doctor if they're sick. It's really the smartest thing to do, they didn't go through all that schooling to give you some higher priced Advil, they truly want to help.
