Minneapolis Restaurant Review: Bubba Gump Shrimp Company in the Mall of America

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is a seafood restaurant brought to life by the Academy award-winning movie Forrest Gump, which starred Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump and Mykelti Williamson as his friend in the Army, Private Benjamin Buford 'Bubba' Blue. This restaurant provides its patrons with good food and a great family environment.

Some of the specialties available from this eatery are Fish and Chips, and the Bourbon Mahi-Mahi. This version of Fish and Chips uses Mahi-Mahi. It is dipped in a beer batter and fried just right. The combination of beer batter and the type of fish used makes this one of the best versions of Fish and Chips, I have ever had. Another specialty is the Bourbon Mahi-Mahi. This entrée is charbroiled using Cajun spices and a Bourbon sauce, and served with shrimp over mashed potatoes. You cannot miss with either one of these dishes.

For those that are vegetarians, and do not eat fish or seafood, there are not many options available. Vegans are limited to either a Caesar Salad or a Tossed Cobb Salad. This means there is not a lot of variety. However, the tossed Cobb salad is one of the best and most reasonably priced versions I have experienced.

The specialty drinks available range from non-alcoholic smoothies to liquor infused libations. For those that want something different from the regular soft drink or tea, there is a smoothie called Run Forrest Run. This drink uses fresh oranges, strawberries, bananas, and a fat free raspberry frozen yogurt to create a cool refreshing smoothie. Another smoothie available is Jenny's Favorite. Jenny's Favorite is a frozen yogurt smoothie made with strawberries, cranberry juice, and fat-free raspberry frozen yogurt. On the alcoholic side, a favorite is the Southern Charm. This drink uses vodka, DiSaronno Amaretto, Southern Comfort, orange juice and sweet and sour to tickle your taste buds. It is served in a glass that you get to take home with you.

Price ranges for the food is from $7-$12 for sandwiches and from $12-$20 for the entrées. Free mall parking is available for the entire facility. All food items are available for takeout. The restaurant's dress code is casual and reservations are not required. The wait time on a weekend night for party of four is usually between 20 and 30 minutes. The Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is a great place for the entire family. A children's menu is available and features many smoothies such as the PB&J smoothie. This is also a great location for a kiddie birthday party.
