Minnesota Twins Postseason History

Since moving from Washington in 1961 the Minnesota Twins have reached the postseason on nine different occasions. Here is a look at the Minnesota Twins postseason history.

1965. The Minnesota Twins win the American League Pennant with a record of 102 and 60. The Twins would face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. The Twins would win the first two games of the series in Minnesota. The Dodgers would respond by winning the next three games to take a three games to two series lead. The Twins win game six to force a game seven. But the Dodgers would win game seven by a score of 2- 0 to capture the World Series.

1969. In the first year of divisional play the Minnesota Twins win the American League Western Division title. They would play the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Championship Series. The Orioles would sweep the Twins in three games to win the series.

1970. The Twins would once again win the Western Division in 1970 and once again play the Baltimore Orioles in the League Championship Series. The Orioles would once again sweep the series in three games.

1987. The Twins would return to the postseason for the first time since 1970 when they win the Western Division title in 1987. The Twins play the Detroit Tigers in the League Championship Series. The Twins win the series in five games to win their first American League Pennant since 1965.

The Minnesota Twins face the St Louis Cardinals in the 1987 World Series. The Twins would win games 1 and 2 at home. The Cardinals would the win the next three games in St Louis. Facing elimination the Twins win game six to force a game seven. The Twins win game seven by a score of 4 to 2 to win their first World Series Title in Minnesota.

1991. The Minnesota Twins advance to the postseason in 1991 when they win the Western Division title. The Twins face the Toronto Blue Jays in the League Championship Series. The two teams split the first two games. The Twins would then win the next three to win the series in five games. The Twins win their third American League Pennant.

The Minnesota Twins face the Atlanta Braves in the World Series. Just like in 1985, the Twins win the first two games at home. The Braves would than win the next three games in Atlanta. The Twins win game six in extra innings on a Kirby Puckett walk off home run to force a game seven,. The Twins win game seven by a score of 1-0 in 10 innings to capture their second World Series title.

2002. The Twins win the American League Central Division title and advance to the postseason. In the first round of the playoffs the Twins play the Oakland A's. Oakland takes a two games to one series lead, but the Twins fight back to win the last two games and win the series in five games. The Twins advance to the American League Championship Series where they face the Anaheim Angels. The Twins win the first game of the series but the Angels win the next four to win the series and the Pennant in five games.

2003. The Twins win their second consecutive Central Division title. They face the New York Yankees in the first round of the playoffs. The Twins win the first game but the Yankees win the next three to take the series in four games.

2004. The Twins once again win the Central Division title and once again face the New York Yankees in the first round of the playoffs. The Results are the same, the Twins win the first game but the Yankees win the next three to once again take the series in four games.

2006. The Twins win their fourth division title in five years. This time they face the Oakland A's in the first round of the playoffs. The A's sweep the Twins in three games to win the series.
