The Minnesota Renaissance Festival will be celebrating its 40th anniversary this year in Shakopee, Mn. This one promises to be bigger and better then ever, if that's possible. This annual event draws phenomenal crowds each and every year. It's held on weekends beginning on Aug.21,2010-Oct.3rd, plus Labor Day and Fri. Oct. 1st. Here are some of 2010 themed events:

Highland Fling: Aug. 21 & 22- Highland Games, Scottish Village & Free Beer Tasting

Silk Road: Discover the Riches! Aug. 28 & 29-National Bird Show, Belly Dance competitions, performances & lessons, Juggling competition & Microbrew Tastings

Royal Celebration: Sept. 4, 5 & 6-Longbow competition, Bocce Ball Competition, & Royal Run 5k/10k

Royal Ale Festival: Sept. 11 &12- 4th annual Pet Fest, Free Beer Tasting, & Military Weekend

Shamrocks & Shenanigans: Sept. 18 & 19-Irish Vendors & "Go Green" Vendors

Wine, Chocolate & Romance: Sept. 25 & 26-Wine & Chocolate Festival, Free Vow Renewals, Free Wine Tastings & Charity Auction

High Seas Adventure: Oct. 1, 2 & 3-BBQ Competition

The Minnesota Renaissance Festival has family fun for all ages which includes elephant, camel, pony and llama rides. There's a petting zoo and even a pet fest weekend when you can bring your 4-legged buddies with you to the faire. Games, rides and other attractions consist of dueling buckets, fencing, archery, Tomato Justice and trampolines just to name a few.

In addition to the themed events there are 16 stages of continued live entertainment and over 100 artisan booths as well as food and drink fit for a king.

General admission ticket prices are $20.95 for adults, $18.95 for seniors and $11.95 for children. Advance tickets are available at a discount. You can also purchase season passes to the Renaissance Festival. Special event tickets are also available for events like the Queens Tea and the Feast of Fantasy. The Minnesota Renaissance Festival takes place 3 miles south of Shakopee, Mn., just off highway 169. It's easily accessible from the major interstates here in Minnesota. I have attended the Renaissance festival 2 or 3 times over the past 40 years and enjoyed it immensely.
