I had known about Minnetonka Moccasins from a few years ago when moccasins were really trendy. But I started to get interested in Minnetonka's boots after I became inspired by Kate Moss's style. I'd look at pictures of her and I noticed that she wore several different styles of Minnetonka with lots of different outfits. After seeing the boots being worn in such creative and versatile ways, I decided that I wanted to buy a pair of Minnetonka's myself.
Apparently a lot of people had the same idea because Minnetonka's were super popular last year. Last fall I noticed that lots of websites were carrying the Minnetonka boots that hadn't previously and if they didn't carry Minnetonka's they were carrying boots that looked similar to the brand. After researching the different styles I decided that the 3 Layer Fringe Boot would be my first purchase by the brand.
The 3 Layer Fringe Boot is a suede mid-calf boot that has three layers of fringe. The top layer of fringe wraps around the middle part of the calf, the middle layer hits at the lower leg, and the bottom layer wraps around the ankle.
Even though I'd seen plenty of pictures of the 3 Layer Fringe Boot online when I tried the boot on for the first time at Nordstrom's I almost threw them off my feet.
Like I said, I usually buy really simple things and even though the Minnetonka 3 Layer Fringe Boot isn't gaudy or completely over the top, it was way outside of my comfort zone. Also I have always hated fringe, I've hated fringe on jackets, on bags, and on tops, so I really didn't know why I was trying on a boot covered with it.
Even though I felt really nervous about buying the Minnetonka 3 Layer Fringe Boot, I decided that in order for me to change my style I was going to have to start buying things that I normally wouldn't. So I bought the boot which cost $95 and decided that if I didn't love it I would bring it back.
I love brown shoes so I bought the Minnetonka boot in brown and I bought it in a size 8 because the store didn't have the 7 ½ that I needed. Although the 7 ½ would have been best the size 8 still worked out because I was able to double up on socks when the weather became cold and my feet were still comfortable.
The brown suede is soft and comfortable. The suede is also light, so the boots don't feel heavy like you're dragging around a ton of weight, but they still kept my feet warm during the winter as long as I wore thick socks with them.
I wore these boots with skinny jeans all winter, but hopefully the boots won't feel too warm during the spring because I really want to rock them with a skirt or some shorts.
The only thing that I didn't like about the Minnetonka 3 Layer Fringe Boot is how flat they are. That's a lot coming from me because I have flat feet and shoes that are flat are usually quite comfortable for me, but this boot gives your feet no support whatsoever.
The first day that I wore these boots my feet were killing me by the end of the day. The soles of these boots began to feel as hard as concrete after awhile. So I made sure to put a pair of Dr. Scholl's gel pads in the boots, which helped a lot, but sometimes after a long day even those pads aren't enough and my feet still hurt with these boots. Other than the flatness I found the other parts of the boot to be comfortable.
But overall I have to say that these boots have become one of my favorite items in my wardrobe. I thought that I would hate wearing them or wouldn't be able to wear them often, but I love them and have worn them tons of times as if they are a basic pair of boots. They can make a simple outfit seem more interesting, and it's given lots of my clothes a hippie/rock-star vibe.
I get lots of compliments on these boots and I always feel like I stand out in them because not a lot of people are wearing them, most people are wearing Uggs. The Minnetonka 3 Layer Fringe Boot has way more personality and though I have seen a couple of girls in them around town, while I was wearing mine, everyone still looks original because of the clothes and accessories they wear with them. So I still feel comfortable and unique.
I can't say enough about these boots. If you're looking for a fun, unique, cool looking, half-way comfortable casual boot that will stand out in a crowd, try these 4.5 out of 5 stars.
