If our little one or teenager has minor or more extreme burns, we need quick remedies that can and will bring relief. Having a game plan before these mishaps happen can often keep parents prepared for those "whatever moments." No, we don't want our kids to get hurt but it does and will happen. No matter how hard we try to keep them from getting hurt, it is a part of life. Today we are going to learn some quick and easy minor burn remedies that you can keep on hand 24/7.
Although minor burns aren't usually severe, they can still cause a great deal of pain. When we or our children get burned, the pain that is associated with minor burns can be instantaneous. When this happens, have your minor burn treatment ready for action.
What is a Burn?
A burn happens when an electrical or heat source connects with our skin. Immediately, we feel the burning sensation that comes with minor burns. Minor burns only are associated with the first layer of skin. Burns are 1st degree, 2nd degree, or 3rd, and 4th degree burns.
With minor burns, the burn will appear red and swollen but usually don't have blisters. If you have a minor burn or even a 1st degree burn, the burns will heal themselves within three to six days. It is important to note that even though minor burns heal quickly, the pain that comes with these burns can be substantial. This is another reason why we need to have quick home remedies ready just in case accidents.
You will know fairly quickly the difference between a minor burn, 1st degree burn and a more severe burn such as a 2nd or 3rd degree burn. Blisters will form quickly alerting you that the burn is more severe than a minor burn. Be prepared to contact your physician if the burn is more severe.
Let's get right to minor burn home remedies. Many of these remedies, you can keep on hand. I have a steady supply of products so that I am never without. We never know when accidents may happen. Several years ago, my husband got 3rd degree burns. Immediately, I pulled my Aloe Vera plant and started applying the aloe to my husband's skin. I could tell immediately see skin shredding so I knew it was severe. I had a very large Aloe Vera which I used completely that night. Again, this article is dealing with minor burns so you probably won't have as severe burns as my husband. The key in burns will be to know what to look for. If you do see blisters or skin coming off, you probably have more severe burns and need to get your or your child to a doctor immediately.
Minor Burn Remedies
Aloe Vera Remedy
Directions:
Aloe Vera has healing properties that make this plant perfect for minor burns. Aloe Vera is an anti-inflammatory and will also relieve minor pain. This is essential with burns. The Aloe soaks into the skin and penetrates the burn, allowing the burned skin to heal. To use the Aloe, take scissors to cut off the skin surrounding the Aloe Vera. You want only the Aloe Vera gel One you have just Aloe Vera gel, roll this onto the minor burn. Let the liquid soak into the skin. Repeat this as often as needed.
Cool Water Remedy
Directions:
As soon as a burn occurs, you want to get something cool onto the skin. Cool water soaks into the skin, relieving the skin of the burn. Try not to touch the burn as you run cool water over the burn as it can irritate the skin. Another option is to stick the burned skin into cool water and leave the skin there if possible. You could do this with hands or feet, but for other parts of the body, you will need to just pour cool water on the skin.
Honey Remedy
Directions:
Honey is a fabulous home remedy product to have on hand because of its healing properties. Not only is it good to eat, but honey is also good for minor burns. After you've washed the burn with cool water, pour honey over the burn. The honey will help heal the burned skin quicker and create a cooling effect.
Milk Remedy
Directions:
Milk has more usefulness than just as a drink. After a minor burn, soak the burn in cold mil for up to ten to fifteen minutes. This process can be repeated as often as needed to help relief the pain associated with minor burns.
Toothpaste Remedy
Direction:
For a minor burn, rub a little toothpaste on the burn to keep the skin from blistering.
