Minx Nails: The Hot Nail Trend of Beyonce, Solange, Eve, Rihanna and Mariah Carey

Paula Neal Mooney
Minx nails are the hottest things to hit celebrity and celebrity wannabe fingertips since...well, Lee Press-On Nails back in the day.

AOL's Black Voices has a great breakdown of the difference between Minx Nails vs. Gel Nails.

I was first hipped to the trends when the gals on The Real Housewives of Atlanta went for a little more me-pampering time and exposed the world (and CNN's Anderson Cooper, apparently) to Minx nails.

Beyonce and her baby sis Solange have been spotted wearing the Minx nails, as well as Eve, who showed her support for President Obama by choosing his image for her thumb.

Minx nails are famous enough to have their own Facebook fan page, with this one enjoying over 3,330 fans.

But how long do they last?

And where can you get them done?

How much do they cost?

Minx Nails, the hot celebrity trend worn by Beyonce, Solange, Eve, Rihanna and other stars...

Depending on the nail technician, reports say that Minx nails can run a fashion-forward diva anywhere from $40 to $80.

Though Today Show featured experts and others claim the nails can last for weeks, one Twitter user reported that her Minx nails peeled after one week. Another blogger concurred, dismayed that her beautiful gold and silver disco ball nails only lasted a few days at most. Forty bucks kind of down the drain.

Other Twitter users post helpful close-up pics of their Minx nails, along with information about where they got them done.

"I luv my minx nails!!" tweeted one user who posted this photo. "Done by Sharlinda (Tula2Nails) in Buckhead," near Atlanta.

The best way to find a Minx nail technician in your area is two-fold:

1 - Check out this salon locator on MinxNail.com and search by state for the Minx nail person nearest you.

2 - Or perform a good old Google search with "Minx" and the name of your city and state, hoping others have documented information online of how to duplicate the hottest celebrity nail trend as of late.

Do-It-Yourself Minx Nails?

Can you apply your own Minx nails?

Good question. MinxMyNails.com has instructions on applying Minx nails, but that's seemingly for professionals -- as are the Minx Nail coverings that can be purchased online, if you have a license, it seems.

"Minx is a professional-only product and should only be installed by a Minx Certified Professional!" admonishes the ordering page on MinxNails.com.

So there.

The hottest nail trend seems like a difficult do-it-yourself-er, but blogs advise folks to duplicate the trend by trying out various shades of metallic-looking OPI products and such.

Those seeking out Minx nail supplies online to buy may be hard-pressed to find them, and end up seeking out a Minx salon near them for their first time.

A trend that first emerged around 2007 -- when the MinxNails.com domain name was purchased -- this celebrity nail style has been brought to the masses.

But will it prove popular enough to last?
