Mio Liquid Peach Tea Water Enhancer is Good, but Not Great

A Product Review

Charlotte Kuchinsky
I hate drinking plain water. I freely admit it. I can't stand the taste or should I say the lack of it. Consequently, I almost always enhance my water with some type of fruit flavoring.

My very favorite flavoring use to Water Sensations Peach Flavor. Unfortunately, I can't find it anymore. That's why I decided to try Mio Liquid Peach Tea Water Enhancer. It is certainly different and I'm not entirely convinced that is a good thing.

From Kraft Foods Global, Inc., of Northfield, Illinois, Mio Liquid Peach Tea Water Enhancer is still relatively new. It is one of the latest water flavoring innovations on the market. But does it deliver? Let's take a look and see.

Mio promises 24 servings in each bottle. That can; however, be a little misleading. I've discovered that I like to use more than a drop or two. Therefore, my Mio only lasts about 15 servings. The point is the serving amount will vary slightly from person to person, depending upon how much of the liquid is used.

The flip open lid is convenient and it closes tightly to prevent leakage. However, the squeeze bottle is a little rigid. It takes practice to figure out how to dispense just the right amount.

There is 1.52 fl oz of liquid flavoring inside each bottle. There are no calories in Mio Liquid Peach Tea Water Enhancer. There is also no fat, no sugar and no salt. It doesn't contain carbohydrates; nor does it have cholesterol.

The bad news, of course, is that mio also doesn't have any nutritional positives. It contains no protein, fiber or vitamin benefit either.

Ingredients include acesulfame potassium, natural flavor, potassium sorbate, sucralose and water. They also include blue 1, citric acid, malic acid, potassium citrate, propylene glycol, red 5 and yellow 40.

Here is my summary review.

Taste: 3 stars. I really don't think the Mio Liquid Peach Tea Water Enhancer tastes much like peach tea. On the other hand, it is definitely better than having to drink plain water so I'll use it anyway. I just need to experiment to find the right amount of water enhancer to make my taste buds happy with the end result.

Appearance: 2 Stars. The color of Mio Liquid Peach Tea Water Enhancer is a little odd. It is not quite peach colored and not quite tea colored. I try not to look at it as I'm drinking because the color is a bit of a distraction.

Freshness: 4 stars. Kraft recommends that Mio Liquid be used within one month of its opening. I suspect; however, it will actually last longer. The bottle I purchased has a use by date of 2020.

Reputation: 3 stars. Kraft enjoys a good reputation because they have earned it. While Mio Liquid Peach Tea Water Enhancer may not be the best Kraft product ever made, it is still a decent one.

Nutrition: 2 stars. Unfortunately, Mio Liquid has no nutritional value whatsoever. On the flip side, it might also do less harm that some similar products that contain far more chemicals and preservatives.

Green value: 5 stars. The product's packaging is totally recyclable.

Packaging: 5 stars. Mio Liquid comes in a cute little flip top silver bottle. Although the bottle itself is a bit boring, a colorful plastic label matches the color of the flavoring inside (e.g., grape, peach, cherry red, etc.). In my case, it was a pretty peach color for peach tea flavoring. I think the packaging is clever; done in a bottle rather than individual packets.

Ease of storage: 5 stars. The Mio Lquid bottle is small, measuring 3" in height by 2.25" in width and .75" in depth. It is small enough to pop in your purse and take with you everywhere you go so you can flavor your water any time and any place. It is also small enough to fit into a drawer or anywhere in your kitchen if you just want it on hand while you are at home. I love the carry along aspect of it. I keep mine in my handbag.

Availability: 4 stars. Mio Liquid is still relatively new and it hasn't been picked up by every store as of yet. It should; however, be available in most large retail grocery chains and discount department stores that have a large grocery section.

Price: 5 stars. Mio Liquid Peach Tea Water Enhancer is about the same cost as the individualized flavor packets for water that average between $2.99 and $3.99 a bottle.

Final rating: 3.8 stars. It's good, but far from perfect.

RATING SCALE:

5 stars - outstanding
4 stars - good
3 stars - average
2 stars - below average
1 star - poor

I drink roughly two quarts of water daily. Additives gross me out.
