Mira Loma High School Club Dances to Support Local Children's Hospitals, You Can Help Too

At the beginning of each new school year, students attending local area high schools will decide whether or not they want to join and sign up as a school club member. They will have many clubs to choose from in areas like science, a foreign language, government, sports, drama and music, but there may be some students who may decide to start their own fun clubs. On the campus of Mira Loma High School in Sacramento, CA, a gathering of students have started what they hope to be a new tradition that will continue for years to come. A group of understanding and dedicated Mira Loma students are members of their very own Dance Marathon club which supports local children's hospitals in the community as part of the Children's Miracle Network.

Since its founding by students back in 1991, over 150 schools and college universities have chosen to participate in Dance Marathons nationwide to raise money for their local community Children's Network hospitals. Clubs are fully student run and students get to spend a year raising funds for and with children's hospital patients and their families. Involved students get to learn how to be community leaders, they will gain valuable social skills and most importantly, make new friends. During the year of fundraising and learning, a Dance Marathon and giant party of 12 to 36 hours will take place to celebrate the children and the funds raised. This means that students will stay on their feet dancing, playing games and entertaining patients for up to 36 hours, and all for a good cause.

"Dance Marathons are a fun way to support your local Children's Hospital and give back to the community," wrote Mira Loma Dance Marathon Club President Niharika Gupta. "It's a great way to attract sponsors to your school who will support other activities, and it can be a tool to extend classroom teaching. Students learn team building, business and finance management, and interfacing with other people."

College dance marathons across the nation raised over 6 million dollars last year alone, and even though the Mira Loma High School Dance Marathon club was only recently formed, they have already raised more than $5,200 during their first dance event. Funds raised by Mira Loma High School benefits the U.C. Davis Children's Hospitals. Like Mira Loma's club, 100% of the funds raised on and off campus by your Dance Marathon club goes directly to help your local children's hospital.
