Susan is a little girl who lives with her mother, a successful business lady who works for the retail giant, Macy's in New York City. When the hired Santa for the Macy's parade shows up inebriated, Susan's mother Doris quickly replaces him with Mr. Kris Kringle. Mr. Kringle is not only a dead ringer for St. Nick, but he even believes himself to be the famed jolly old elf. The only problem is convincing others of the fact.
Perhaps Kris Kringle's toughest critic is Doris who has raised Susan to be practical and level-head, not given to fantasy and foolishness. So Kris must try his best to prove to Doris and Susan that he is the real thing. Thankfully Doris and Susan's new friend Fred Gailey, an attorney, had come alongside to help Kris in this endeavor.
Once word gets out that Macy's has hired a "quack" who thinks he is really Santa Claus, Kris is brought before a New York City judge to determine his sanity however the case soon balloons into a an all-out legal battle to prove that Santa exists and that Kris Kringle is Santa Claus. Fred Gailey takes up the defense for Kris against the prosecutor Mara for finale that will have everyone believing in good ol' St. Nick.
